ATLANTA Atlanta police say they arrested a man who brought multiple guns into the Publix grocery store at Atlantic Station Wednesday afternoon.
They have now cleared the store and are investigating a suspicious package at the store.
Investigators say the man, identified as 22-year-old Rico Marley, walked into the store just after 1:30 p.m. holding a rifle. He then went into the bathroom. A witness told us he was inside the bathroom and saw Marley with a rifle in the stall behind him. He quickly alerted store management, who called police. As Marley exited the bathroom, officers arrested him.

(1,242 posts)Even they know it is public endangerment to haul an arsenal into a grocery store while wearing body armor.

(43,146 posts)What is it about retail stores? Used to be Walmart, now it's supermarkets. They must like the aisles that gives them shelter and they can chase people down. They're never or rarely out in open spaces - parks, golf courses.

(2,350 posts)Will do something about gun control. I mean, for the GOPQ, its one thing for good, law-abiding, White people to have all the guns they want. But THIS is a whole different ball game for them.🙄

(4,552 posts)I know this post is late to the party, but I read the locked thread regarding this near-miss shooting at Publix.
In your answer to someone questioning the trigger for these events, you responded that it could be churches.
You might be on to something!
I happened on a video on Facebook for an Assembly of God inspirational event. Im not religious so I have no clue what its called, but it wasnt a Sunday worship service, more like a stage show with lots of singing and spreading His word.
What stood out to me very vividly was this phrase the speaker kept talking about:
Man your battle stations
This was back in December 2020. The speaker seemed to imply there was an urgency and she was inspiring the audience to be ready for something coming soon.
Maybe like an insurrection???

(10,184 posts)But, as Covid restrictions fade and schools reopen its only a matter of time. Maybe if it happened more in churches, but then I realize it has and a common response was more people to be armed; you know good guys with guns. It really hard to imagine what could be bad enough to get RW to open their eyes.

(1,568 posts)I mean, it's weird even if he was planning doing some sort of random mass shooting. That's a lot of weight to carry around. Why not just have more magazines? It's also weird for someone to have that many guns and body armor on in a grocery store even if they are not planning a mass shooting.
Just glad someone saw it before he did whatever he was planning on doing.
