KEY POINTS

President Joe Biden plans to announce a new goal of 200 million Covid vaccination shots within his first 100 days in office.

The United States had 100 million coronavirus vaccinations conducted as of last week on the 59th day of the Biden administration.

After a slower-than-expected rollout under ex-President Donald Trump, the pace of vaccinations in the U.S. has rapidly increased, averaging about 2.5 million doses daily.

The federal government has a deal with Johnson & Johnson for 200 million doses. It also has deals with drugmakers Pfizer and Moderna for 600 million doses combined.

President Joe Biden plans Thursday to announce a new goal of 200 million Covid vaccination shots being given within his first 100 days in office, a White House official told NBC News.

As of last Friday, the United States had 100 million coronavirus vaccinations conducted. That benchmark — which was Biden’s original target — was reached on his 59th day in office.

Biden is set to discuss the new target Thursday afternoon at his first press conference as president.

After a slower-than-expected rollout under former President Donald Trump, the pace of vaccinations in the United States has rapidly increased, and has been averaging about 2.5 million doses per day in the past week.

There have been 135 million vax administered as of yesterday, I think. 37 days remaining until the 100 day mark. 2.5 million doses per day are currently being administered. By day 100 the total number administered should be at about 227 million.

Of course the Republic Party Members could hold out and not get shot up until after day 100 in an attempt to have the number come under 200 million thus having the media call for The President's resignation, in disgrace.

Still, I wonder how we get the vaccine-resistant crowd to comply. It's so frustrating. Even after my 2nd vaccination in a few weeks, I don't know if I'll feel safe with the variants going around and people still refusing to vaccinate.

My gastroenterologist's office told me in December that none of them would get vaccinated. When I went back in March, they had all been vaccinated. Could be that someone required it, but I don't know. Whatever they did, I wish it could be done all over.

Similar to Trump. They'll get it and just not tell anyone.

All of my friends are chomping at the bit, waiting for theirs. Wish that part was contagious! Then maybe my daughter wouldn't be so obstinate about it.

Hard to believe that's where we are as a country, where political party and/or viewpoint would determine whether or not one would choose to protect themselves, their friends, and their families from a deadly disease.

100 million shots was always too low of a goal. 150 million was better but still too low. But a lot depended on whether the manufacturers could keep up. It is pretty clear now that we should pass 200 million pretty easily if their aren't any hiccups.

The better question is how many people will be fully vaccinated at that point. It should be at least 100 million people. I was hoping for 125 million but 100 million looks like the threshold that will be most likely.

When Joe took office on January 20, the U.S. was averaging 700,000 doses per day. Joe committed promised that manufacturers would increase production enough to allow an additional 300,000 doses per day plus enough to make up the previous deficit needed to get to 100 million in 100 days. We shouldn't fault him for not being more aggressive; it's better to under promise and over deliver than vice versa. For all we know Moderna and Pfizer may not have been willing to commit to the 150 million number.

And as April progresses, look for that number to rise into the 30's.

Thats how we do 200 million in 100 days.

April is going to be a big month...
