Biden holds 1st formal news conference, faces questions on pandemic, migrant surge
Source: ABC News
While Biden touted the benefits of his $1.9 trillion COVID relief plan and advances in helping the economy recover, he faced immediate questions about the growing challenges that have taken some focus away from his effort to sell his legislative victory, including Republican opposition to his agenda on immigration and gun control.
"I got elected to solve problems," Biden responded. "There are a lot of problems," he said, but he argued those were "long-term problems" while he needed to put all his focus on dealing with the pandemic and the economic fallout.
"I think my Republican colleagues are going to have to determine whether or not we want to work together or decide that the way in which they want to proceed is to -- is to just decide to divide the country, continue the politics of division, but I'm not going to do that. I'm just going to move forward and take these things as they come," Biden said.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection has struggled to handle the influx of unaccompanied minors crossing the border, which is only expected to increase in coming months, and media access to the facilities housing children has been extremely limited and tightly controlled.

It is refreshing to hear serious, fact based responses, rather than racist rants or discussions about drinking bleach.
Of course, the first part of the article just pushes the right wing talking point that the Biden administration has not be responsive to the press which ignores the return of regular press briefings.

White House press secretary Sarah Sanders spent most of Thursday afternoon stepping in and out of her private office to field questions from reporters huddled in the hallway, seeking more answers on the presidents surprise letter denying House Speaker Nancy Pelosi use of military aircraft for her congressional delegation overseas.
The crowding of the West Wing hallway, in what is known as 'upper press,' has become the new norm for reporters seeking information or comment from the White House on major headlines over the past 35 days a record for the span of time without an on-camera briefing during President Donald Trumps time in office.
Sanders has not briefed once yet in 2019, and has broken the previous Trump White House record for no press briefings set between Oct. 29 and Nov. 27 last year, a 29-day period during the fall where the 'disappearing' press briefing seemed to enter the 'endangered species' territory.
The Trump White House has not only lapsed its own personal record for the span of time with no press briefings according to the University of California Santa Barbaras American Presidency Project, Sanders has also surpassed the all-time record for time with no on-camera briefings since they began during the Clinton administration.

(15,562 posts)Don't judge it's cheap they got lotsa machines and it's a no pressure environment. So they also got lotsa TV screens mounted so you can look at something while working out. I had no option but to get one that was almost dead center on Faux and Tucker Carlson. According to him, Biden was horrible. The TV's are muted of course so I'm trying to read the dialogue. Tucky said Joe said he was running for re-election already. I thought to myself, 'didn't some other recent president announce he was running for re-election before the inauguration champagne got warm?' Also, Biden has lost control of the southern border. Just thought you'd want to know............

(5,366 posts)Biden gets the job. Step 1? Rolls up sleeves, tells it how it is.
"I got elected to solve problems," Biden responded. "There are a lot of problems."
The last one, Trumpy McTrumpface, was a fluff artist, hiding the multi layered deceit behind a veil of bluff, bluster and holier than thou attitude.
With four years of hard work ahead of him, things will change greatly.
Even the most embittered Republican should be thinking 'Hey! this isn't so bad after all!' at the end of it.
