U.S. Capitol on lockdown after report of gunfire nearby

Source: Market Watch

Police locked down the U.S. Capitol on Friday afternoon after a report of gunshots in the area. U.S. Capitol Police say all Capitol buildings were being locked down “due to an external security threat” and staff members were told they could not enter or exit the buildings.

A law enforcement official says officers were responding to a report of a possible shooting on a street near the Capitol complex. It wasn’t immediately clear if anyone was injured.

The official could not discuss an ongoing investigation publicly and spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity.

Two Capitol Police officers are injured in a vehicle attack; complex is on lockdown.

By Emily Cochrane and Glenn Thrush

April 2, 2021, 1:34 p.m. ET

The Capitol Police said Friday that a suspect was in custody after two officers had been struck and injured by a vehicle near the heavily guarded northern entrance to the U.S. Capitol. The Capitol complex was locked down, as the agency instructed staff to remain indoors, away from doors and windows, as eyewitnesses posted videos of a large law enforcement response. “A suspect is in custody,” the Capitol Police said on Twitter. “Both officers are injured. All three have been transported to the hospital.”

Images from the scene posted on social media appeared to show emergency workers treating someone on the driveway of the Capitol. One member of the news media, Jake Sherman, posted a video showing a helicopter landing near the building. Congress is on recess and so the majority of lawmakers are not near the building, and President Biden left Washington earlier in the day for Camp David.

Shortly after 1 p.m., an alarm came and an alert was sent to all staff members on Capitol Hill. “Capitol: Due to an external security threat located All U.S. Capitol Campus Buildings, no entry or exit is permitted at this time. You may move throughout the building(s) but stay away from exterior windows and doors. If you are outside, seek cover,” said a message sent from the Capitol Police.

What are the odds that this was an accident? Sure has the MO of another one of the Soldiers of the Patriot Movement. Apparently this individual was out of the car and brandishing a knife.

Two Capitol police officers hurt when rammed by vehicle at U.S. Capitol, police say

Capitol Police said two officers were injured when a vehicle rammed into them near the U.S. Capitol early Friday afternoon. The suspect was fatally shot by police, according to three officials familiar with the investigation. Police said the two officers were taken to the hospital. The incident comes less than three months after the Jan. 6 insurrection at the Capitol left five people dead, including Capitol Police Officer Brian D. Sicknick.

Two police officers who had been at the riot later died by suicide. It also comes two weeks after law enforcement authorities removed an outer perimeter fence, opening Independence and Constitution avenues to traffic. An inner-perimeter fence remains around the complex. On Friday, all buildings on the U.S. Capitol complex were put on lockdown, and officials said Attorney General Merrick Garland has been briefed on the incident and is monitoring the investigation. The FBI said in a statement its Washington Field Office is responding and providing support to Capitol Police.

The blocks surrounding the Capitol building were once again surrounded by law enforcement as the area was secured. Just before 2 p.m., two dozen National Guardsmen formed a line across Independence Avenue, wearing helmets and body armor and carrying plastic shields.Vehicles and walkers were blocked from going east on Constitution Avenue NE by barricades and armed National Guardsmen, along with D.C. police patrol cars.

The U.S. Capitol Police said on Twitter that the incident occurred at an access point along Constitution Avenue. When the incident occurred, police alerted staff members: “Due to an external security threat located All U.S. Capitol Campus Buildings , no entry or exit is permitted at this time,” the alert reads. “You may move throughout the building(s) but stay away from exterior windows and doors. If you are outside, seek cover.”

Considering the cops shot this poor mostly-unarmed mentally ill youth who was clearly lost and asking for directions.

we should all have equal outrage for acts like this. But we dont. Its hypocrisy. And few will admit it.
Hardly a word about the mass shooting in CA the other day. What more have we heard about the Colorado guy?
