(Iowa Governor) Reynolds signs gun bill easing background checks, permits

Source: ABC News

Gov. Kim Reynolds signed a bill Friday that will make handgun carry permits and background checks on unlicensed sales optional in Iowa.

As of July 1, people can buy handguns from private non-licensed sources such as websites, gun shows and individuals without a permit or background check. People also will be able to carry a gun into public places such as grocery stores and malls without prior safety training or a permit.

Reynolds said in a statement that the bill protects the Second Amendment rights of Iowa’s law-abiding citizens.

"We will never be able to outlaw or prevent every single bad actor from getting a gun, but what we can do is ensure law-abiding citizens have full access to their constitutional rights while keeping Iowans safe,” she said.

What they can do is sue for wrongful death every time someone who should have been refused a gun buys one under the new looser rules kills. It may get nowhere, but it’ll send a clear message and be good for constant headlines in and out of Iowa. Name both the governor and the gun seller as defendants.

Threatened by a changing society and what they see as a zero sum game. They want to stay on top and retain the power to shit on whoever they like, whenever they like. To bend our culture to their will. That power is slipping away and clinging to their guns and bibles is a way of coping. Barrack Obama was not incorrect in that description of them. To Obama's point, sure, some have lost, but that's their own damn fault for not adapting. These are "boot strap" people after all. The GQP is riding those fears to retain power. Some cynically. Some GQP'rs are actually trogs themselves.

And any attempt at effectively dealing with any of that completely blows the narrative of dragging us all back to 1960. Kicking and screaming if necessary. Thus, climate change doesn't exist. Education is for the rich. Healthcare is what you can afford. And immigration consists of walls, guns and deportations. Deportation back to the same countries we've been screwing since Gen. Smedley Butler was a pup.

All they ever campaign on anymore is keeping the 'government' from taking your gunzzzz away, that's all they've got. Insurrectionist Mo Brooks is campaigning for the Senate seat that Richard Shelby will vacate when he retires and the ONLY issue on his facebook page is 2nd Amendment rights, and his followers eat it up.

Just another state I won't visit or spend one red cent in. If I don't know who is packing, I'm not safe from any nut that decided to start shooting.

I'll just travel in Blue states that don't allow open carry, or concealed carry to just anyone who wants to pack.
The GOP are insane and look for more mass shootings. What a pity.

The GQP and NRA have succeeded in turning the entire country into their vision of the wild west (yet we all know that in the true 'wild' west that there WAS gun control in that nearly all western town required people to leave their guns with local authorities when they came into town).

19 states now allow the carrying of a concealed handgun without a permit, and 23 others are "shall issue", meaning that anyone who applies for a permit to carry concealed is automatically approved, unless a background check shows that they cannot legally own a handgun (fefon, domestic abuse, etc.).

To kill. There is no reason for a person to carry a gun, in my opinion.

I'm not addressing those who hunt for food as the season may allow, just the idiots that think it is macho to walk around with a firearm strapped to their body. Are they(or you) expecting a gunfight? If there was a law enforced that one should not have a gun on their person, some of these horrible events we are seeing would not happen.

I guess I am naive but I hate to go around wondering if the next idiot has a handgun or another weapon with them and might decide to take out his hate and frustrations on innocents.

How far we have fallen! Second amendment be damned. It is out of date and poses a threat to those of us who recognize this fact.
We don't need a regulated militia. We need a brain!
