Ted Cruz, Republican Senators Go to Bat Against Major League Baseball by Suggesting End to Antitrust
Source: Law & Crime
Immunity
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) on Friday joined the fray in the GOPs ongoing battle with Major League Baseball (MLB), suggesting that the league should be stripped of its immunity from federal antitrust regulations for its response to Georgias new voting measures.
MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred on Friday announced that because of the Republican-led effort to change voting laws in the Peach State, the league would be moving its annual all-star game out of Atlanta. The 98-page billwhich was signed into law by Gov. Brian Kemp (R) Thursdaymade sweeping changes to how the state will administer elections in the future, including a strict photo ID requirements for mail-in voting ballots, that many experts believe is aimed at suppressing turnout.
The MLB move was met with immediate backlash by GOP lawmakers, with several proposing retribution against the league.

Hey Jeff Dunce the issue isn't voter ID and you know it.

(855 posts)that's not really the issue is it?
The obvious issue is the Repub campaign to deny legal citizens their right to vote without having to jump through crazy hoops as defined by the Repubs. The issue is that elected officials are not supposed to be allowed to cherry pick their voters, not the other way around, where all eligible voters are supposed to be able select their representation. (And of course starting with the fact in Georgia, Kemp, as SOS, blatantly removed how many voters from the rolls to insure his own election to gov? Why has this fact so far received so little national attention?)
One would think that that should be an easy argument to make in any equitable court of law. Assuming of course, that those courts haven't already been corrupted by the same Repub rules. Their whole argument is so corrupt on its face.

Major League Baseball should lose its decades-old antitrust exemption, two Republican U.S. senators said Friday night.

{snip}
MLBs antitrust exemption has been in place since a 1922 Supreme Court decision ruled that the league is a sport and not a business. The National Football League, National Basketball Association and the National Hockey League dont have the same exemption.

Full disclosure: I had to look this up, because it's not my field. I would have guessed that the NFL was getting breaks too.

(15,290 posts)And, according to Baseball America, losing the anti-trust exemption would actually hurt minor league baseball more. That would enable the two Atl Braves affiliates to re-locate should they desire.

But this might be a good thing for minor league players who, today, don't get paid much for playing minor league baseball as their rights would have to be part of MLB/MLBPA's collective bargaining agreement.
