The U.S. reported 222 new deaths Sunday from Covid, the lowest number of daily deaths since late March of last year.
Just 222 COVID deaths reported in the US yesterday, which is the fewest since March 23, 2020, FiveThirtyEights Nate Silver tweeted Monday, linking to a chart from Our World in Data based on information from Johns Hopkins University, one of the leading sources on coronavirus data since the earliest days of the pandemic.

Its worth noting that daily coronavirus reporting numbers tend to be less reliable on weekends and holidays. Over Christmas, for example, there were fewer reported daily deaths and new cases, followed by spikes in both. The current seven-day rolling average of coronavirus deaths is currently closer to levels seen in parts of June, July, and October of last year, according to Our World in Datas Covid-19 Data Explorer.
Although more than 100 million Americans have received at least one dose of the coronavirus vaccine, some experts, including CDC director Dr. Rochelle Walensky, have expressed concerns over a possible fourth wave of infections, due to variants of the virus that have been detected around the country.

(1,518 posts)It was Easter Sunday , the numbers are always lower on Sunday
If the numbers stay this low that would be great but it will take more than one day to make a trend

(8,002 posts)Better, where do we stand when using the 7-day rolling average? We know it is getting better by the week but where does it rank historically?

(12,949 posts)didn't report any data on Sunday, because of Easter Sunday, one of the very few times (like 3 or 4 or so) in the past year that it hasn't reported every day of the week.

(7,153 posts)Because many states ((especially in the South)) had Good Friday as a state holiday, and I'm not sure how many coroners showed back up for work on Easter Monday. Overseas, many countries continued the pause in reporting through today as Easter Monday is celebrated there.
As usual, wait for the great catchup by Wednesday-Thursday, or maybe wait until Friday for testing sites and reporting to get somewhat back up to speed.

(7,153 posts)Which further lessens Saturday and Sunday reporting versus before.

(55,106 posts)throughout the day, every day. The numbers on Mondays are always lower. I look at the graph for the World and New Cases are rising at a rate as fast as last Fall/Winter and the 3rd wave, but we are plateauing way too high in many countries, including the US.

(43 posts)President Biden and his team are finally making real progress against the scourge of the virus and you act like trump is still in the White House.
SMDH!

(2,343 posts)Things are looking up. We haven't gotten out the last two weekends, shopping, going out to eat, returning to church, and going to friends homes. People seem happy again.
We are even working on finding a get away for a week or so...like involving airplanes and hotels!
I didn't realize how getting vacinnated would be freeing and releiving!

(12,949 posts)U.S. Daily new cases, 7 day moving average (7dma):
3/22: 54,052 (lowest point since fall)
3/30: 66,066
4/04: 64,023 (latest)
The latest is up 18.4% from the 3/22 low point but down 3.1% from 3/30, so there's hope we're done going up and even starting to go down on new cases. How much this may have been affected by holiday weekend reporting issues is to be seen.
Regardless, these are all way down from the Jan 8 peak of 259,616 daily new cases (7dma), the latest is down 75.3% from that peak.
U.S. Covid-19 patients in hospitals (7 day moving averages)
3/27 39,500 (lowest point since fall)
4/04: 40,938 (latest)
Up 3.6% from the low point.
But down 70.3% from the 137,801 January 10 peak.
EDIT - New reported deaths by day (7 day moving averages)
1/12: 3352 (all time peak)
4/04: 816 (latest)
Down 75.7%
Unlike the daily new cases and hospitalizations, there have been no recent upturns in deaths since mid-January except for a little up and back down in late February. It's been all downhill (in a good way) since then.
