Giuliani asks court to throw out Dominion's $1.3 billion defamation suit

Rudy Giuliani is asking a federal court to throw out Dominion Voting Systems's $1.3 billion defamation lawsuit against him over his attacks on the company as part of an effort to undermine the credibility of the 2020 election.

Giuliani's lawyers on Wednesday filed a motion to dismiss the lawsuit. The 10-page motion did not specifically address the merits of Dominion's claims, but instead argued Dominion failed to satisfy procedural requirements for such cases.

"Giuliani denies that he has defamed Plaintiffs or that he has engaged in any wrongful or malicious conduct toward Plaintiffs," the filing reads. "Should this matter reach legal or factual adjudication on the merits, Giuliani will provide a vigorous and complete response."

Dominion did not immediately respond to a message seeking comment.

1. What about the Smartmatic suits?

Powell and Giulianni have both asked for the Dominion cases to be dismissed. But I haven't heard anything about the Smartmatic suit, which, in my (admittedly not legally trained ) brain, seems like a slam-dunk.

Everyone in Corporate is rolling around on the floor laughing. "Giuliani will provide a vigorous and complete response." Probably the same response as the other Trump lawyer who claimed what she said couldn't be used in a defamation suit because "no intelligent person would believe what I said was true."
