New York (CNN Business)The Anti-Defamation League is calling for Fox News to fire Tucker Carlson.
"Given his long record of race-baiting, we believe it is time for Carlson to go," ADL CEO Jonathan Greenblatt says.
There is zero indication that Fox will take such a step -- or even reprimand Carlson. But the ADL's call, delivered in a letter to Fox News Media CEO Suzanne Scott, underscores the extreme and unsettling nature of Carlson's anti-immigration commentary.
Carlson, the highest-rated host on Fox News, drew condemnations for his comments about "replacement" on another Fox show Thursday evening.
In the ADL's ensuing letter on Friday, first obtained by CNN Business, Greenblatt accused Carlson of an "open-ended endorsement of white supremacist ideology."
Appearing with his friend Mark Steyn, who was filling in at 7 p.m. ET, Carlson invoked "white replacement theory," a racist conspiracy theory that imagines White people are being intentionally replaced by immigrants.
"No, no, no," Carlson said, insisting that he wasn't parroting the theory.........................................

(28,836 posts)Not really. This is Carlson's shtick. It might be slightly more overt than his usual pandering to white supremacists, but only slightly if even that.

(28,836 posts)He's their cash cow. Until he does something that will cost them significantly financially (see: Bill O'Reilly), they're unlikely to say or do anything to him.
They're clearly condoning his behavior. They have been for years. What he said is nothing new - it's just a slightly different spin on the act.

(37,530 posts)...fire someone who reflects the network's values entirely. It is a station for, by, and about White Supremacy, and there is no good reason to suppose anything else.
I'm not afraid to go full Godwin here: Fox News is a nothing more than a modern day Der Stürmer.
The Allies executed Julius Streicher, but no one is going to execute Rupert Murdoch, who appropriately has been designated here as the most dangerous immigrant ever allowed into the United States.
need new Fairness Doctrine legislation. Immediately.

(3,149 posts)I know it wont happen because money. But I dont think theres a constitutional bar against it.
Maybe just make networks like Fox issue a disclaimer at the beginning of its news shows -- Hannity, Ingraham, Carlson, of course, but all the rest of them, as well -- notifying viewers that the courts have decided that no reasonable viewer can believe anything these entertainment personalities say.
Id like that: "The Tucker Carlson program is replete with dubious claims and specious allegations often transecting the line of logic and reason, deliberately fabricating stories with no credible supporting evidence, and twisting facts and events to fit a dubious message of fear and anger. You are advised that it is not to be taken seriously."
Do the same for Hannity -- please! -- and that Nazi-saluting Ingraham.
It probably wouldnt have much of an effect on the bulk of their viewership because they would discount it as nothing more than a blur of polysyllabic words. Hmmm. Maybe lead into commercial breaks with a P.A. featuring a kindly old person reiterating that This show is largely fiction and always has been. The speaker is not to be believed or trusted.
(Im dreaming, of course. But its such a nice dream!)

(53,338 posts)The only justification for having it for over the air broadcasting was that the supply of that is limited and govt controlled, cable doesn't work that way.
RVN VET71
(3,149 posts)It is not out of the question for a law to be written that would include cable broadcasts under the same rubric as over-the-air. But I concede that such a law would never be passed and, if passed, would be quickly squelched by SCOTUS.
