Rep. Dan Crenshaw says he will be 'effectively blind' for a month after emergency eye surgery
Source: NBC News
The Afghanistan veteran, who wears an eye patch, hopes surgeons got to a detached retina in time to save his vision.
U.S. Rep. Dan Crenshaw, R-Texas, will be "effectively blind" for about a month after he was rushed into emergency eye surgery to treat a detached retina, the lawmaker revealed on Saturday.
The eye patch-wearing Crenshaw, 37, recently noticed "some dark blurry spots" in his vision before an ophthalmologist on Thursday "discovered that my retina was detaching," the two-term Texas Republican said in a lengthy Twitter post.
"This is a terrifying prognosis for someone with one eye," he wrote. "The prognosis I received on Thursday is obviously very bad."

(9,823 posts)easy to lie in any position for 23 out of 24 hours per day for even a week. When my Dad had the surgery back in 1968, he had to stay in the hospital for over a week with sandbags on either side of his head. When he came home, he had to lie in bed for another week or more (long time ago and I can't remember.)

So I feel for Cranshaw. I would hope a month of inactivity, frustration, and self reflection would get him to reassess his politics, but that hope is faint, indeed. After all, I've had a couple of years of it and it hasn't mellowed me, at all.

(11,155 posts)"Sugar Ray" Robinson got one probably from boxing.
My mother got one by existing. One second it was okay and next it was detached or so it seemed to her.
She had to sleep in her sleeping recliner, she sleeps in a recliner. In a more up right position with her head held in place.

(5,294 posts)It started with the mother of all headaches, followed by floaters and little flashes of light (in the dark) or of darkness in the light.
I went to my optometrist, who told me that they were a normal thing that happened as one gets older, but for several weeks afterwards one should avoid strenuous tasks, or it could have turned into a detached retina, and those are serious.

(5,294 posts)"Lucky" for me, the first one happened while I was driving back to L.A., so he worked me in.
The second one, I was in the small town I'd moved to, on my way to getting a hand surgery, so I found an optometrist in town (who, it turns out, was familiar with my regular guy).

With that being said, do I hope he resigns or loses his next election? Of course, I dont like his politics at all.

Representative Crenshaw could be more wrong on most issues. And he's often nasty with his opponents. I hope his current situation softens his hard edges, but don't expect it.
But, I understand, in these heated and politically charged times, how some can wish only the worst for someone with whom they disagree. I was much younger with a 'politics is all that matters' in 1981 when President Reagan was shot. I'm embarrassed over what I hoped and prayed (yes, prayed) for that evening. I would never do something like that today. Getting old chills one.
