DUBAI, United Arab Emirates Iran on Sunday described a blackout at its underground Natanz atomic facility an act of nuclear terrorism, raising regional tensions as world powers and Tehran continue to negotiate over its tattered nuclear deal.
Ali Akbar Salehi, the head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, stopped short of directly blaming anyone for the incident. Details remained few about what happened early Sunday morning at the facility, which initially was described as a blackout caused by the electrical grid feeding the site.
Many Israeli media outlets offered the same assessment that a cyberattack darkened Natanz and damaged a facility that is home to sensitive centrifuges. While the reports offered no sourcing for the evaluation, Israeli media maintains a close relationship with the countrys military and intelligence agencies.
If Israel caused the blackout, it further heightens tensions between the two nations, already engaged in a shadow conflict across the wider Middle East.

(9,958 posts)He and many Israelis are against the negotiations to reestablish an agreement with Iran on their nuclear goals. Even though Israel takes billions from the US in foreign aid every year, they often do things that complicate US diplomatic efforts. More strings need to be attached to aid for Israel.

It's telling that Saudi Arabia is fine with Israel having nukes but wants their own if Iran gets them.

(10,808 posts)That's why they are smuggling arms into Yemen and funding the civil war there and firing cruise missiles at Saudi oil facilities and funding and smuggling in weapons to Hama's and Hezbollah and propping up the Syrian regime and...oh wait, that's all Iran.

(26,227 posts)Now in my opinion I don't like any country to have them and I wish that they were not possible but since that is not likely to happen then we should at least try to keep them out of the hands of countries that are more likely to use them in a first strike offensive.

(3,334 posts)when they did not have to. The use of the 2 atomic bombs by the US did not have anything to do with ending WWII.

(10,808 posts)So Japan surrendering 6 days later was just a coincidence I suppose?
And the conventional bombing of Japan caused and would have continued to cause many more casualties then the 2 nuclear bombs did.

(3,334 posts)except they wanted to keep their emperor. They did this because they knew that Russia was about to invade them and they knew that they had lost the war and Russia would take some of their islands. Truman refused to allow them to surrender. He dropped the first bomb to show the Russian we had the atomic bomb and he dropped the second one to show the Russians we had more than one and were not afraid to use them. Then Truman allowed the Japanese to surrender unconditionally and would allow them to keep their emperor. Why did he refuse to let them surrender before the bombs were dropped but allowed them to surrender under the same terms after the bombs were dropped?

(3,334 posts)You have to read about both sides of the debate and then decide for yourself which is the correct one. I believe that they tried to surrender.

(10,808 posts)What date did they contact the US govt and try to surrender?

(3,334 posts)My question is why did Truman drop the bombs when he knew that Japan was talking to Russia and it was only after the 2 bombs were dropped that he accepted Japan's terms. He could have accepted those terms without dropping the bombs.

They claim they have no enrichment going on (because the sole purpose is weaponry), and yet are forced to complain that somebody broke their enrichment.
As to whether Israel has the moral right to have The Bomb, I leave that to the bigger thinkers. I do know they've had The Bomb for 60+ years and haven't killed anyone with it. And I know the Iranian mullahs are bat shit crazy and evil and will use their bombs just as soon as they can.
So any delay is good. I don't care from who or (too much) how.
