VIRGINIA Officer Accused of Force in Stop of Black Army Officer Fired
Source: NBC News
One of two police officers accused of pepper-spraying and pointing their guns at a Black Army officer during a traffic stop has since been fired, a Virginia town announced late Sunday, hours after the governor called for an independent investigation into the case.
The town of Windsor said in a statement that it joined calls from election officials, including Gov. Ralph Northam, in requesting an investigation by Virginia State Police into the December 2020 encounter in which two Windsor officers were accused of drawing their guns, pointing them at U.S. Army second lieutenant Caron Nazario and using a slang term to suggest he was facing execution.
Nazario, who is Black and Latino, was also pepper-sprayed and knocked to the ground by the officers, Joe Gutierrez and Daniel Crocker, according to the lawsuit he filed earlier this month against them.

(80 posts)Why weren't both cops fired and why did it take almost 5 months? They thought we wouldn't find out about it. I hope the court jury awards this young man much more than one million. Police must be required to pay for their own liability insurance and not taxpayers when they murder civilians. It is becoming a habit of police that should never be police.

(10,494 posts)It is considered malpractice if you sue for an amount and the jury awards a lot more. Defense attorneys try to make the plaintiffs out as greedy because they sued for so much when it is just to cover themselves. Jurors never get told this

(2,338 posts)How is it malpractice, if the jury makes an award that just happens to be greater than what is asked for? How is that the attorney's fault? You'll need to explain that.

(2,338 posts)How it constitutes malpractice if the jury decides to award a larger amount - at least not to me. If the jury feels an award (or punitive) amount should be higher, I just fail to see how that falls under malpractice under any circumstances.
As a medical professional, malpractice would be causing injury or other undesirable outcome. And I higher award amount isnt an undesirable outcome in my mind. I guess its a matter of the difference of perspectives. 🤷?♂️

(4,552 posts)At the end of the engagement the fascist cops are trying desperately to convince the active duty United States Army Officer that the whole thing was his fault! They knew they were in trouble.
He did nothing wrong. He broke no law. He is not a criminal. Police are employed for LAW enforcement.
If you have committed no crime the police have NO NONE NADA authority over you. They can't tell you to do shit. Every order they gave was an unlawful order. Searching the active duty United Stated Army Officers car was completely illegal. They did not have a warrant or permission.
The active duty United States Army Officer (who swore an oath to protect our nation against all enemies foreign and DOMESTIC) asked numerous times what was going on. He wanted to know why he was stopped. THE FASCIST COPS KNEW THEY HAD NOTHING AND NEVER ANSWERED HIS QUESTION. There was no traffic violation! They had NO authority. They are law enforcement, not lets dig around and see if we can find something to screw this guy with.
Fascism is a form of far-right, authoritarian ultranationalism characterized by dictatorial power, forcible suppression of opposition and strong regimentation of society and of the economy. Police are a very important part of creating a fascist state.
To many police in America believe they are our overlords and masters and we as Americans need to show them the error of their beliefs. Cameras everywhere is FREEDOM. Always record the police.
Even after being pepper sprayed this American hero stayed in control. A stunning display of contrast when you compare the fascist cops complete lack of self control with the American hero's complete control. Tough as nails he is. The fascist cops were on an adrenaline rush and loving it. Sadistic is what that is. Adrenaline rush is addictive.

(51,523 posts)The soldier, like many people, wanted to pull over in a well lighted, safe area, so he drove to a gas atation.
The cop thought he was evading a stop. But as soon as he pulled him over the soldier's innocent ntent would have been apparent, particularly since the soldier drove withing the speed limit to the gas station.
Looks like the cop just got pissed that the soldier did not obey his orders fast enough for his ego.
