Trump claims New York tax law no longer applies to him because he's not president
Source: Independent
Donald Trump, in another attempt to block his tax returns, has now said that the New York tax law no longer applies to him because he is no more the US president.
The tax law of New York, which is called the Trust Act, enables the state to share the presidents tax details with the Congressional committee.
In 2019, Mr Trump had sued the House Ways and Means Committee to stop it from requesting this information, officials of the New York state administration, and New Yorks attorney general to block them from giving his tax information to the US Congress.
According to a report by the Bloomberg News, Mr Trumps lawyers have now written in a report to the US District Judge Carl J Nichols in Washington, saying that While the Trust Act is not the clearest statute, the best reading is that it does not apply to former presidents.

(856 posts)Growing up many of us played "Cowboys and Indians" or "Soldier" after we heard the stories from our fathers about WWII and got to watch a plethora of Westerns and War movies in the 50s and 60s. We even had plastic guns and tanks and helmets and shiny six-shooters with "caps" and fake head dress feathers and rubber tomahawks and face paint galore thanks to ads we saw on TV and in comic books.
Funny thing! Then some of us got the chance to "play" for real and guess what? It wasn't really fun. There were no do-overs!
In the 80s we fought aliens on Atari's and Commodores and Apples and when we died, we simply put another quarter in the machine or pressed reset and, Presto! we did it all again. Nothing could hurt us. We lived a faux life vicariously through technology and stories and fables where only the good guys win. Some of us really started to believe that, again.
Seems some of us think we're still living in that genre - that we're indestructible - that all we need to do is put another quarter in the slot and we get a second chance. Or better, we can reprogram the outcome to our liking,
Now, at advanced ages, some of those memories can become hard to separate from reality. As was said earlier, many times scenarios are provided by those who care for us to make us think things are like they were when we thought we we living in a better, safer, more secure time. Such seems to be the case with Donnie One-Term.
Sadly, everyone really associated with him, especially the Republican Party knows his grip on reality is gone but they still appease him because they are still playing childhood games along with him and have a large supply of quarters at hand from others who also still play those childhood games.
While it may seem ok for Donnie One-Term to play he's still president with aid of the sycophants surrounding him, the sad fact is the Republicans still cling to something they know they are losing and can't win no matter how they try. But it is still in their long cherished, childish vision they think can return them to their imagined glory days.
The best thing that could happen to the Republican Party, or what's left of it, isn't letting Donnie One-Term play president any longer. It would be for Donnie One-Term to pass from this plane of existence - the sooner the better. Without his Walter Mitty leadership, there may be a chance some of the more moderate Republicans or at least the ones who may have some vestige of morality and/or a tenuous grip on reality still left might be able to salvage their party.
I don't think there are enough of them to hope for that. Too many wannabe chiefs and not enough Indians. Too many Sergeants and not enough privates (but WAY too many lieutenants!).
And they really are starting to run out of other's quarters.
Republicans, maybe it's time to stop playing - stop pretending it's the 1800's or the 50s and 60s again (or even the early 2000's), pull the plug and get on with real life?
