Gov. Ricketts designates Nebraska as 'sanctuary state' for gun rights

LINCOLN — Doubling down on his pro-gun rights credentials, Gov. Pete Ricketts signed a symbolic proclamation Wednesday designating Nebraska as a "Second Amendment Sanctuary State."

The proclamation comes as President Joe Biden recently announced a plan to address gun violence.

A growing number of Nebraska counties have adopted similar "sanctuary" resolutions. A bill also is pending in the Nebraska Legislature to allow counties to opt out of the state requirement that gun owners register and take a gun safety course to carry concealed weapons.

“The White House and U.S. Congress have announced their intention to pursue measures that would infringe on the right to keep and bear arms,” Ricketts stated in the proclamation. “Nebraska will stand up against federal overreach and attempts to regulate gun ownership and use in the Good Life.”

How does one have a sanctuary for a weapon? Or for an idea?

Funny, but when the Black Panthers showed up as poll watchers armed with military style rifles, Governor Reagan passed gun control right quick.

Where are all these home invasions where armed with just a pistol or rifle, a brave homeowner thwarts crime in progress?

Defense against Hollywood fantasy because they do not want to live in a reality where they can't shoot black people for sport because they want to. They're the last stand against tyranny, which is no where close to what the 2A was about. Free state needed frontier fighters to kill them pesky injuns west of the Appalachias. Militias meant slave patrols who were tasked with returning runaway property. THat's not I need an arsenal because I'm afraid to go to Target.

Policing as we know it is a vestige of chattel slavery. Until we define effective Public Safety Services and stop sending militarized occupying forces for traffic stops and domestic violence, law enforcement will treat all of us, but especially black, brown and other as the enemy. IF we weren't awash in guns, police wouldn't have to fear traffic stops, since so few cops are actually injured or assaulted from those encounters.

Unless one is an MP, I don't think being in the military does prepare you for police work.

Perhaps if Nebraskans have more people killed by guns their stupid governor might see the light but that's probably an lol hope. I would gladly invite him to Boulder to see the huge memorial for the ten people killed while buying groceries. Or the high school where twelve children died or the movie where 16 people were killed and 77 injured. He could talk with all the mourning families. You know, about the Good Life. Or he could stay home and comfort the families of Nebraskans who are killed by guns every day.
