Arkansas bills that add restrictions to voting process head to governor's desk

Source: CNN

The Republican-controlled Arkansas legislature this week passed a handful of bills that would add restrictions to the voting process in the state, sending them to the governor's desk.

One of the more controversial bills, dubbed the "no water bottles for voters" bill by opponents, would prohibit people from entering the perimeter of a polling place unless they were voting -- making giving food or water to voters in line a crime in some cases. Another measure would ban clerks from sending unsolicited absentee ballots to voters, while one would put in place strict signature match requirements for mail-in ballots.

Republican Gov. Asa Hutchinson's office told CNN on Wednesday that he is reviewing the bills.

The bills are part of a larger effort by Republican-led legislatures to restrict voting access in the wake of record turnout in the November 2020 election. In the last month, the effort has intensified as state legislatures begin to head into the final months of their respective sessions.

The Arkansas Legislature is off the rails. It has spent the entire session on guns, abortion, beating up on trans-kids, and voter suppression.

We need help in Arkansas. Please contact the following Arkansas based companies and tell them that this is unacceptable AND until they take concrete action, they are responsible.

Walmart.
Tyson Foods.
Dillard's.
J.B. Hunt Transport Services.
Windstream Communications.

It does no good to boycott Walmart unless you make sure they know you are boycotting - why - and when you will lift the boycott.

We're in trouble in Arkansas. The RW nuts in the General Assembly must be reined-in. Please help.

right wing. One of the top reasons I left the state after 29 years.
I'm surprised J.B. Hunt and Tyson's aren't screaming against this.

the strict signature match. A match to what? The last time you voted or from when you registered to vote? My signature has changed over the years due to arthritis getting worse in my hands. I watched my parents signature get worse as they aged. My father’s is illegible at this point.
