Greta Thunberg to testify in Congress on Earth Day

Teenage Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg will testify before Congress at an Earth Day hearing on Thursday, the same day that President Joe Biden will convene world leaders for a virtual conference on climate change.
Thunberg, Time's person of the year in 2019 for her work on climate change, will appear before a House Oversight Committee panel for a hearing entitled "The Role of Fossil Fuel Subsidies in Preventing Action on the Climate Crisis.
Key context: The testimony will occur as Biden hosts a climate change summit with 40 world leaders. The White House has struggled so far to prod world leaders to bring new commitments to that event.
Democrats pushing to pass Biden's $2 trillion-plus infrastructure and climate plan should not expect the climate campaigner to give them an easy time. At a 2019 Senate event, she urged lawmakers "save your praise" and told them "I know youre trying, but just not hard enough. Sorry."
