PORTLAND, Ore. A man who said he witnessed a police shooting in Lents Park on Friday said he had spoken to the man hours before Portland Police officers got to the scene.
Police said around 9:30 a.m., a 911 caller said a man was in the park with a weapon. Officers responded to the scene and confronted him.
"He seemed real cool. He didnt seem disoriented. He wasnt saying anything crazy. He just seemed like a guy down on his luck," said Hernandez.
Hernandez said the man did have a gun on his chest when they spoke earlier Friday morning, but he did not see a weapon on the man when officers arrived. He said the man was sleeping in a tent near the baseball field at Lents Park, but seemed calm. However, Hernandez said the man's attitude changed when police got there.
