The suspect appears to be a former detective who was charged in 2020 with sexual assault of a child. The Travis County Sheriff's office would not confirm on Sunday if the suspect was the same person, but the name and date of birth are the same.

Stephen Broderick was identified as the gunman in the Austin shooting Sunday, April 18, 2021. The Travis County Sheriff's Law Enforcement Association shared this photo on their Facebook page in February 2019.
Stephen Broderick was accused of sexually assaulting a child in June of 2020. Broderick was 40 years old at the time of his arrest.
The arrest affidavit said the assault happened at a home in Elgin. The victim made an outcry to her mother, who took the child for an examination and doctors confirmed the abuse.
Broderick was arrested on June 6 by the U.S. Marshals Service and charged with sexual assault of a child. He was placed on administrative leave without pay.
Broderick was booked into jail and spent 16 days behind bars prior to posting bail, which was set at $50,000.
Broderick, a property crimes detective, resigned after his arrest, according to Travis County Sheriff's spokeswoman Kristen Dark.

AUSTIN (KXAN) Authorities have arrested the former law officer wanted in the shooting that left three people dead and launched a massive manhunt.
Stephen Nicholas Broderick, 41, was arrested Monday morning between 7 a.m. and 7:40 a.m. without incident approximately 20 hours after the shooting, Manor Police and the Travis County Sheriffs Office confirmed. Manor Police said Broderick had a pistol at the time of his arrest, but no shots were fired.
Broderick was found between Manor and Elgin on Old Kimbro Road just south of Highway 290 after at least two 911 calls reporting a suspicious person. The Travis County Sheriffs Office took the lead with the arrest with Manor Police assisting.
Im especially grateful to the vigilant citizen who called 911 after seeing Broderick, and to the Manor PD officers and TCSO deputies who took him into custody this morning, Travis County Sheriff Sally Hernandez said in a statement.
