Derek Chauvin is segregated from other inmates in state's 'most secure unit'

Former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin spent his first night in prison since his conviction for murdering George Floyd segregated from the other inmates, a Minnesota Department of Corrections spokeswoman said Wednesday.

[snip]

He is residing in the Administrative Control Unit, "the state's most secure unit," Fitzgerald said.
"Administrative segregation is used when someone's presence in the general population is a safety concern," she added.

However, prison tends to mete out its own level of justice.

Which reminds me of Jeffrey Dahmer's last words in the prison laundry room. "I used to eat guys like you for lunch."

heart was too small." I worked in a woman's prison. There were scary criminals there, but for the most part it was bad luck, bad upbringing, and sadly, bad men. To some of those women, it was the only safety and security they had ever known in their lives. He will be in a population of men who have known sadistic bullying cowards since childhood. The true tragedy is that with his history of excessive force, he should have been stopped long before it escalated into murder.

His colleagues, superiors, and union are complicit in this crime as well.

A good HR person could look at the records of people like him and show you who's going to be an issue later. They'd put a corrective action plan in place and monitor performance and behavior.

It wouldn't take a video from a 17 year old showing a murder, public outcry, and a trial to get the guy fired.

We've got a long way to go but, hopefully, this is a start.

Welcome to DU and you sure are delivering great stuff here. You both have shown that all of this is nothing new but that we've FINALLY stepped up and started to do something about it.
Let us all hope that this new administration will continue to create the climate that makes justice in America something for everyone, not just the 'favorites' and those willing to pay.

The ninth unit, completed in 2001, is the state's administrative control unit. The ACU is sometimes referred to as "Super-Seg" and houses the most violent offenders in an environment nearly completely free of physical contact with staff. Many of the offenders in the ACU have attempted to assault prison staff, or have engaged in a deadly assault on another inmate. Each cell is a self-contained living unit that includes sink, toilet, and shower. Each cell is accessed through two sets of doors, creating a sally port for each cell. Offenders are typically given access to an exercise room that is open to outside air for one hour each day.

Solitary is used to torture inmates (usually of color) and the guards in these prisons have less oversight than we know...

So for this "cop" to suffer from it is kinda just desserts IMO

I'm for rehabilitation, not revenge. I don't like the idea of prison gangs, or prison rape, or the other bad things that happen to people in prison, especially since the vast majority will eventually re-enter society.

I don't think that the 'Officer' has access to as many hidden secrets as Jeffery did. After all, we've not seen a single picture of Joe at a party with Derek, surrounded by like-minded party animals!

Solitary is not helping him. That's close to mental torture. Could not be happening to a more deserving fella.
