Source: Washington Post
One week after the insurrection at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, Robert Chapman sent a message to a prospective love interest on the dating app Bumble to brag that he had taken part.
I did storm the capitol, he said, according to court documents. I made it all the way to Statuary Hall.
His potential date wrote back: We are not a match. Then, the Bumble user contacted the police.

May be that it was done as part of an intentional process with deliberate speed.

(3,622 posts)They are making sure that the cases against these idiots will be solid and that the arrests can't reasonably be challenged. They also have hundreds of targets, so there is a bit of a backlog. But they are being thorough.

Emotionally, I understand the impatience very well. But intellectually, I don't get it. It's way too easy to derail a criminal case with just one slip made in haste. And this is just way too important to do that.

(16,291 posts)Maybe it's because I read a lot of true crime books and have done my share of trial watching, but I expect an investigation as big and complex as this to take a way and would worry if it didn't.

(589 posts)building a solid case takes time, especially if you have hundreds of them. And there is the added factor of giving these people enough rope to hang themselves...which many of them are doing, just like this clown.
I was a system designer in the security field for a while (started in AV and ended up there for a few years)...we used to joke about how lucky we were that criminals tended to be some of the dimmer bulbs in the chandelier. If Dump and his minions were any smarter we'd be dead or in camps by now.
