Grand Rapids, Michigan police officer punches suspect during traffic stop arrest. Department chief defends actions
By Melissa Alonso and Rebekah Riess, CNN 1 hr ago

A Grand Rapids, Michigan, officer who is seen on bodycam footage punching a man during a March traffic stop initiated for littering has been defended by his police department.

Bodycam footage of the incident, provided by an attorney for the man who was punched, Diabate Hood, shows at least four officers attempting to handcuff Hood while he is on the ground next to a stopped vehicle. One officer is seen striking Hood several times in the face with his fist. Hood screamed "my eye" multiple times.

The Grand Rapids Police Department has not identified the officer who punched Hood or any other officer involved. CNN has placed open records request for all other body camera videos of the incident.

"This is the police work that I expect from my personnel," GRPD Chief Eric Payne said. "I have made the enforcement of violent crime and the recovery of illegal firearms one of the department's top priorities."

for being full of thugs, and you recruit for more . . . then train them to be violent . . .

Don't be surprised if the police uniform is worn by violent thugs.
Violent thugs who act out their innate tendencies. Often.

The response from the police chief speaks volumes.

Garland will not be able to keep up with the investigations.

And there ended up being four cops? Once again, a police department that has too many cops and not enough real crime to justify the numbers. And we need to do away with routine traffic stops unless a person's driving is a danger to others. In cases like this, the cops could take down the driver's license plate number and send a citation for littering in the mail.

It sounds like the Grand rapids PD has endorsed the "EMPLOYMENT of violent crime" in the course of their work.

Chief of police, Erick Payne was also sure that he could get away with his comment...

If he was sure that he would be fired for saying that he would NOT have said it...

Mr Hood was "talking back" to the officer and gave him "some lip".

And that's enough to cause a beating. Oh, based on the "actions, behavior, and conduct of the occupants"?

Gee, when a black man gets stopped by white cops, I guess we should expect the black man to instantly submit to the officers, don't speak, don't move, don't act nervous or anxious, just let them handcuff and murder you?
