COVID: More than one-third of California adults are fully vaccinated

More than one-third of Californians 18 and older 34.7 percent are now fully vaccinated against COVID-19, a positive milestone in the effort to control the deadly virus in the state.
So far, 57.8 percent of Californian adults have received at least one vaccine dose, according to data from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention. Among residents 65 and older, immunization rates are even higher: 86.1 percent have received at least one dose and 64.4 percent are fully vaccinated.
California has administered roughly 27.4 million vaccine shots 79.5 percent of the doses it has received and is averaging 365,686 daily shots. The pace of vaccinations in the state has slowed down in recent days for the first time since they were rolled out, spurring calls from experts for more easily accessible vaccination options, as well as more education and outreach for people wary of the vaccines.
On Friday, a federal health panel recommended that health providers resume using the one-and-done vaccine developed by Johnson & Johnson, which had been linked to extremely rare cases of blood clots.

California has also managed to get its positivity rate down to among the lowest in the Nation, which is amazing given how densely populated the Bay Area and Los Angeles are.

Nonetheless, Republicans are hoping that they cans steal a governorship by paying signature gatherers to force a low turnout recall election just a few months before the 2022 primaries in the hopes that most folks do not turnout to vote since the primaries are just a few months away. The key to Republican victory is to suppress the vote.

(4,542 posts)I had lunch with my 2 best friends Saturday. We are all over 65 and fully vaccinated. The last time we had seen each other was at Christmas in 2019. We had a leisurely 2 hour lunch outdoors at a great Italian restaurant. It was soooooo nice to feel safe doing that.
People are wearing masks here moreso than in the past. Everyone working in stores or restaurants that I have seen are properly masked and social distancing has become an automatic part of personal awareness for most people. Common courtesy and respect for others seems to have become popular again, too.

(2,894 posts)"outreach" about the vaccine will make much difference. Josh Marshall (Talking Points Memo) today said that to get to something approaching herd immunity in the US (which in Israel has tuned out to be about 60% vaccinated) may require children getting the vaccine, given the size of the country and the number of anti-vax dead enders amongst adults.
