Federal Investigators Execute Search Warrant at Rudy Giuliani's Apartment
Source: NYT
Federal investigators in Manhattan executed a search warrant on Wednesday at the Upper East Side apartment of Rudolph W. Giuliani, the former New York City mayor who became President Donald J. Trumps personal lawyer, stepping up a criminal investigation into Mr. Giulianis dealings in Ukraine, three people with knowledge of the matter said.
One of the people said the investigators had seized Mr. Giulianis electronic devices.
Executing a search warrant is an extraordinary move for prosecutors to take against a lawyer, let alone a lawyer for a former president, and it marks a major turning point in the long-running investigation into Mr. Giuliani.
The federal authorities have been largely focused on whether Mr. Giuliani illegally lobbied the Trump administration in 2019 on behalf of Ukrainian officials and oligarchs, who at the same time were helping Mr. Giuliani search for dirt on Mr. Trumps political rivals, including President Biden, who was then a leading candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination.

(53,214 posts)A far cry from the days when he was called "America's Mayor". It has all been downhill ever since. Of course, like with Donald Trump, New Yorkers knew what an ass he was even back then. I never saw what some people thought was so impressive. I saw an opportunist who shamelessly used 9/11 every chance he got for his own benefit. Like Biden said in 2007, "There's only three things he mentions in a sentence: a noun, a verb and 9/11."

(53,214 posts)who clearly should have known better. The justice department is full of "boy scouts" who are dogged in their pursuit of criminals. Plus, I don't think Giuliani was ever a very likeable guy in the first place. I'm sure he made his share of enemies over the years.

(4,123 posts) Under Mr. Trump, senior political appointees in the Justice Department repeatedly sought to block such a warrant, The New York Times reported, slowing the investigation as it was gaining momentum last year. After Merrick B. Garland was confirmed as President Bidens attorney general, the Justice Department lifted its objection to the search.

(1,931 posts)After all of this time, and rumors that Lev Parnes was cooperating, maybe electronic devices that have been wiped are almost as damning. If they have the other side of conversations with Rudy in evidence and then Rudys side doesnt exist anymore? I dont know the law, but that would seem like obstruction of justice.

(135,693 posts)A tenant in former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani's apartment building told reporters on Wednesday that she saw investigators "bringing out a lot of stuff" after they raided his apartment and seized his electronic devices.
The FBI executed search warrants on Giuliani's Manhattan apartment and his office, as well as the Washington, DC, home of one of his associates, Victoria Toensing. Giuliani's lawyer, Robert Costello, also told ABC News that agents served Giuliani's longtime assistant, Jo Ann Zafonte, with a federal grand jury subpoena.
"I just saw people," the tenant in Giuliani's building, Michele Herbert, told reporters after the raid. "I probably saw FBI jackets. But I just saw people, you know, and I saw all of you and I said, 'What is going on?'"
"They're probably, maybe, still up there in his apartment," she added. "I really don't know. They were bringing out a lot of stuff."
