Aaron Rodgers tells Packers he doesn't want to return, per report
Source: USA Today
The tension between the Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers might have hit a new level.
Rodgers has told multiple members of the organization that he does not want to return to the team, ESPN reported Thursday.
Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst was insistent in his pre-draft news conference that the team was committed to the reigning NFL MVP.

A large meteor just hit the world of sports.
I wouldn't normally post a sports related story on the LBN forum and this will likely be the only time that I do.
But this is Aaron Rodgers that we're talking about. A legend, a future hall of famer...
His career speaks for itself. As a Vikings fan, my jaw is currently on the floor. Any other NFC North fans here? Bears Lions Vikings, what are your thoughts?
Also for any NFL fan, regardless who you cheer for, what are your thoughts?
Is your jaw on the floor right now?
Yes, I'm over-sensationalizing this but, damn...

The receiving team better make sure that he is on board with playing for them (under the rest of his contract). He might look to reset his contract though (double dip that bonus money).

(18,348 posts)A year sounds about right assuming he can get settlements in place.

(16,698 posts)He's at the end of his career and not interested in "building" or any multiyear plan. He's Brady looking for a team that can win NOW. I suspect he's Montana more than Brady, i.e. a veteran looking for one more "win". I think he is looking to pull a "Payton Manning". It's really hard to do. I wish him luck. But I suspect it is a result of a management at Green Bay that doesn't inspire him to immediate results.
Oh, and no, this doesn't belong in LBN. Sports don't really rise to this level.

(18,348 posts)If they can get some trade assets for Jordan Love, then they can go all in this year and have a shot at a SB. I think only the Saints or 49ers would be a better situation for him (and that is arguable).

(61 posts)But the leading contenders for the services of Mr Rogers are the Raiders and the Broncos. And from what I'm seeing in other places, the deal could be done tonight.

Sorry, sports fans. The opinions and inner-gamesmanship of professional sports leaves me cold. The players are almost all millionaires who play games for billionaires while the working stiffs pay for it all.
I'm going sailing.

(2,493 posts)I'm staring out my bay window looking at the "G" on the stadium as I type this. I'm starting to think Rodgers was already starting the grumbling before the Love pick. I bet thats why they drafted Love. To kick start Rodgers in the ass (and it worked) and to prepare for the anticipated flare up that is happening now with him.
In other words the Packers saw this coming and hedged their bet by getting Love.
