South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem sues Biden over Mt. Rushmore July 4 fireworks display
Source: Axios
South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem (R) said Friday she's suing the Biden administration for denying the state permits to hold an Independence Day fireworks display at Mount Rushmore.
Context: The National Parks Service denied the permits over tribal opposition to the celebration and potential risks regarding the health and safety of both the park and guests, citing the coronavirus pandemic and fire hazards.
What they're saying: The governor, who is viewed as a potential 2024 GOP presidential candidate, is demanding a federal court "expeditiously" issue a permit for the event to take place, according to Fox News.
"Mount Rushmore is the very best place to celebrate Americas birthday and all that makes our country special," Noem said.

(3,587 posts)Seriously,
I don't know what the conditions are like in that area of the country, but I live in an area (Napa), where I have been evacuated from my home twice now, since 2017. Every year it seems to get worse. Even the thought of any kind of fireworks in the summer around here is just freaking crazy. It is illegal here, and I would report anyone of my neighbors who was stupid enough to light fireworks in the middle of a tinderbox.
Lives, human and wild, and property, and forests are at stake.

(111,169 posts)That's all this is about for Noem, money.
People who are into giant male heads hacked out of granite will still show up. Let her have her fireworks in the city, where more folks will see them.
The twit's lawsuit will be tossed, she should have sued either the Interior Dept. or the tribes, and good luck with the latter, we've kept them broke for over 100 years.

The replica Mayflower was worth the trip, amazing how small it is. Plimoth Plantation is also interesting, pretty obvious why half of them kicked the bucket that first winter, they'd have been much better off moving into the housing the Wampanoags left behind when they fled disease.
The only one of the bunch I ever had much use for is Thomas Morton.

(15,325 posts)Here's today's drought monitor for western US from the Weather Channel, availible for EVERYONE to see:
There are fires currently burning in eastern Montana, western ND & SD.
It's been brittle dry & winds are always high across the plains.
They have been fighting fires throughout that region for awhile now.
Noem should sit this one out & let others in the business of fighting swift moving prairie fires make that fireworks decision.
She is just too stupid to have a say.

(14,887 posts)4th of July fireworks then it is Philadelphia. Representatives to the Second Continental Congress from New Hampshire, Massachusetts Bay, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia signed the Declaration of Independence in that city. (South Dakota wasn't even a gleam in the founding fathers' eye in 1776)
[Independence Day] will be the most memorable Epocha, in the History of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated, by succeeding Generations, as the great anniversary Festival. It ought to be commemorated, as the Day of Deliverance by solemn Acts of Devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with Pomp and Parade, with Shews, Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other from this Time forward forever more. You will think me transported with Enthusiasm but I am not. I am well aware of the Toil and Blood and Treasure, that it will cost Us to maintain this Declaration, and support and defend these States. Yet through all the Gloom I can see the Rays of ravishing Light and Glory. I can see that the End is more than worth all the Means. And that Posterity will tryumph in that Days Transaction, even altho We should rue it, which I trust in God We shall not.
