Kansas lawmaker arrested after allegedly kneeing student in groin, asking about kids sex life on video

One video allegedly shows Kansas state Rep. Mark Samsel asking students about their sex lives.
Another reportedly shows the Republican lawmaker pushing someone against a wall while working as a substitute teacher and warning, I could put the wrath of God on you right now.
And yet another, reviewed by the Kansas City Star, allegedly captures the moments right after the legislator kneed a student in the crotch Wednesday. Samsel stands over the boy, the Star reported, and asks, Did it hurt? then asks him why hes about to cry and queries a classmate, Do you want to check his nuts for him, please?
Class, you have permission to kick him in the balls, Samsel says at one point on video, according to the newspaper.

In another video, Samsel is recorded telling students, make babies. Who likes making babies? That feels good, doesnt it? Procreate ... You havent masturbated? Dont answer that question....God already knows. [snip]
In another video, he tells students, Class, you have permission to kick him in the balls.
Parents told The Star that Samsel put hands on the student and allegedly kneed him in the crotch. In a video apparently taken immediately after the incident, the student is shown on the ground. Samsel is standing over him and says, did it hurt?
Speaking about his vote against a bill that would have ended an exemption for spouses from the states sexual battery law:
He claims he was worried about "criminalizing sexual relations between spouses." Oookay. He may have been fired from the school, but so far, the Kansas House GOP is still "gathering information." Wow.

(3,192 posts)Hes just a good guy, isnt he, even a great guy. The school sucks. He fears for our future.
Hold on, Jake, you kneed a kid in the groin and invited the class to kick him in the testicles. Yeah, sure, he says, but thats just because the media is only showing one side of this. There was no altercation. No altercation? You mean the kid just lay on the ground holding his groin and moaning for funnies? You mean you just called the rest of the class to assault him -- in jest? Thats the only side anyone needs to see. If things got so out of control in the classroom, thats on you, bubba, not on the kids. And the correct responses would have been a) to call the principals office immediately and b) resign by walking away. You did neither.
His ability to lie so easily about what is evident on video suggests a serious, deep psychological problem. I hope that jail helps straighten him out.
(No, Im kidding. Jail wont straighten out a slime ball like him. I just hope it makes him suffer, a lot.)

(30,179 posts)First and foremost, people are innocent until proven guilty (allegedly
), so including "allegedly" protects news media from libel and slander suits.
Second, video can be staged or framed in a way that grossly misleads. This is propaganda 101: control the narrative.

I'm not saying that's what's going on in this instance, only giving plausible reasons why journalism includes that kind of disclaimer.

A Kansas state representative was arrested on a charge of misdemeanor battery after he reportedly went on a religious rant while working as a substitute teacher and ended up in a physical altercation with a student.
Rep. Mark Samsel, a Republican who represents parts of four rural counties southeast of the capital Topeka, was busted by the Franklin County Sheriff Thursday, a day after the bizarre incident at Wellsville United School Districts high school.
Students in Samsels classes were recording videos of the lawmaker throughout the day, talking about suicide, sex, masturbation, God and the Bible, The Kansas City Star reported.
In one video shared with the paper, Samsel tells students about a sophomore whos tried killing himself three times, adding that it was because he has two parents and theyre both females.
In another video, Samsel is recorded telling students, make babies. Who likes making babies? That feels good, doesnt it? Procreate.

(30,179 posts)The KC Star article reports,
In a Snapchat post shared with The Star, Samsel wrote that it was all planned.
Every little bit of it. Thats right. The kids and I planned ALL this to SEND A MESSAGE about art, mental health, teenage suicide, how we treat our educators and one another. To who? Parents. And grandparents. And all of Wellsville, he posted.
It was supposedly about "art, mental health, and suicide"? WTF was he supposed to be teaching? I could see if they'd pulled him in to teach social studies (as a lawyer, that's the only thing he might be qualified to teach). But I am 100% positive he was not hired to teach art and/or health and wellness. And NONE of that excuses bringing God into the public school at all.
Where are the students who agreed with this? And also: if the kids did agree to do this, it may not have been of their own volition. How can kids give consent or object to what's being taught in school as it's being taught? To do so is to be labeled a troublemaker and sent to the office. Kids are literally in school to learn to be compliant and unquestioning (as opposed to learning and using critical thinking skills, per the DeVos education agenda).
