A man was shot and wounded outside the Central Intelligence Agency's headquarters in McLean, Virginia, on Monday after emerging from his vehicle with a weapon, according to the FBI's Washington Field Office. The CIA said the suspect did not breach the compound.
The FBI said in a statement that it was reviewing an "agent-involved shooting" that occurred at roughly 6 p.m. local time.
"An individual involved in a security incident outside Central Intelligence Agency Headquarters in McLean, VA, emerged from his vehicle with a weapon and was engaged by law enforcement officers," the FBI's statement said.

The suspect was transported to a hospital for medical attention, according to the FBI. It did not provide any further details about the shooting, though it said hours earlier that agents had responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle outside CIA headquarters.

(5,897 posts)Somehow I missed that story last night.
It's also where the Pakistani shooter killed several people in 1993.

(658 posts)local police gets you a wave and a smile, but if you do it in front of an FBI agent you get shot. What does that say about local police?
I've been very surprised that the 2nd amendment people who parade around with their guns haven't been shot more often. I believe that if I were a peace keeping officer, and a person, or group of people presented weapons in my presence, I would place my hand on my weapon and demand that they explain themselves - at a minimum. I think that before all of this is over there will be more stories like this one.
The fool thought that he could actually present a weapon to an FBI officer in front of a CIA office. That's very bold in my opinion.

(3,389 posts)wounded, HE WAS NOT KILLED, and it is something that I have been saying for a while. Why do police shoot to kill? They are trained and should have skills that permit them to stop the person without killing them, .the worst part is that police kill even people who do not have a weapon.

(14,015 posts)As far as skills and training go, I think shooting a gun out someone's hand is Hollywood stuff.
One can die from a gunshot to the leg.
I hate firearms.

(57,080 posts)... which thug are you disarming first? Oh yeah, and you're outnumbered a 100 to 1, and at the same time you know a significant percentage of your fellow officers support the thugs.

(5,897 posts)As I understand it, having never been to that compound, the CIA provides its own security.

(9,888 posts)Who in their right mind would pull up to CIA headquarters and brandish a gun? I wouldn't pull out a weapon in that whole neighborhood. And yes, I've been there...the neighborhood, not the headquarters.

The person shot by the FBI outside CIA headquarters Monday evening has died, the bureau announced Tuesday.
The FBI confirmed the death in a one-paragraph statement that offered no new details on what occurred.
Jennifer Smith, administrator for the northern district of the Virginia Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, said an autopsy determined the man, Roy Gordon Cole, died of gunshot wounds of the torso and upper extremities, and the manner of death was found to be homicide. She said she could not release how many times Cole had been shot.
Efforts to locate Coles family members were not immediately successful, though Smith said the mans relatives had been told of the death.
