Judge orders release of DOJ memo justifying not prosecuting Trump
Source: Politico
A federal judge has ordered the release of a key Justice Department memo supporting former Attorney William Barrs conclusion that former President Donald Trump should not be prosecuted for obstruction of justice over episodes investigated by special counsel Robert Mueller.
U.S. District Court Judge Amy Berman Jackson issued that ruling in a withering opinion that accused Barr of being disingenuous when describing Muellers findings and found that the Justice Department was not candid with the court about the purpose and role of the 2019 memo prepared by Justices Office of Legal Counsel.

Not only was the Attorney General being disingenuous then, but DOJ has been disingenuous to this Court with respect to the existence of a decision-making process that should be shielded by the deliberative process privilege," she wrote. "The agencys redactions and incomplete explanations obfuscate the true purpose of the memorandum, and the excised portions belie the notion that it fell to the Attorney General to make a prosecution decision or that any such decision was on the table at any time.

Glad to see this ruling. This could be the start of a real fair and open investigation by Garland's DOJ. As opposed to Barr's obstruction and stone-walling.
If Trump is not-guilty then why does he continue to act like a guilty man?

(758 posts)Garland's office argued this case before US District Court Judge Amy Berman Jackson and won this most recent ruling.
Garland is the real deal. He is building a case against the Trump cabal.
This ruling is a monumental beginning in that process.
My belief, Garland is serious about possibly prosecuting Trump or he wouldn't have argued this case. IOW it would have been a waste of time if Garland thought it was a "nothing to see here" scenario.
This ruling gives the DOJ some real "fangs" to move forward. Hopefully, a full investigation and indictments come next.

(16,940 posts)Two things here:
1. "If Trump is not-guilty then why does he continue to act like a guilty man?"
BECAUSE HE'S GUILTY!
2. THIS should be the legal action to release the COMPLETE, un-redacted Mueller Report - and let the SHIT-HIT-THE-FAN!!!!!

(1,389 posts)Barr is in no small way responsible for covering up the abuse of power in the Reagan (including George Bush 1) and Trump administrations. Hopefully history will put him in his place.

(7,403 posts)The rules mean nothing if there are no consequences for not following the rules. Toothless justice is no justice at all. Why hasn't the Bar suspended Barr's license to practice law?
