Pierre 'Pete' du Pont IV dies; ran for president in 1988

WILMINGTON, Del. — Pierre S. “Pete” du Pont IV, a former Delaware governor and congressman who sought the Republican presidential nomination in 1988, has died. He was 86.

Du Pont, a scion of the family that established the DuPont Co., died at his home in Wilmington, Delaware, on Saturday after a long illness, his former chief of staff, Bob Perkins, said.

Born to wealth and status, du Pont broke with family tradition in the 1960s, forgoing a comfortable career with his family’s chemical company for a life in politics.

as well as obviously in Delaware.

The current Longwood Gardens in suburban Philly, was created (and financially maintained) by his great uncle (and also namesake) Pierre S. DuPont.

There had been a lot going on with that family over the years although I haven't heard much from them recently (outside of one member who was involved in a sensational pedophilia crime related to his toddler daughter).

When I worked for a large, sinister corporation. He had some appeal for the corporate types but did't make it past the NH primary, finishing third behind Bush and Dole.
