Boris Johnson to press ahead with lifting England COVID curbs

Source: Politico

LONDON — Boris Johnson will press ahead with unlocking England on May 17, Downing Street said Sunday night.

From that date, six people, or two households, will be allowed to meet indoors, and 30 people will be able to congregate outdoors. Most businesses will be able to reopen, and pub and restaurant customers will be able to eat and drink indoors. Cinemas and children's play areas will also be able to reopen.

Large events and sporting fixtures will be allowed to resume with a reduced capacity for spectators, and weddings and funerals will be allowed to go ahead with up to 30 people.

In comments released by No. 10, ahead of a press conference on Monday at which Johnson will confirm the move, the U.K. prime minister said his roadmap out of lockdown remained "on track."

Everything else BoJo has done was turned out fine. With luck, the Irish civil war will restart, and they are working hard on provoking a war with France.

I live in the middle of England, in the North Cotswolds. We have enjoyed having fewer tourists, but unfortunately we need the tourism to support our local businesses.

We've already seen the local fish and chip shop open with 6 people waiting inside. The local weekly market is an obstacle course filled with masked, but "Unaware of other people's personal 2 meter safety space" nut jobs. Even at the local Coop grocery, I've seen more frequent non-maskers walking the aisles - and no one seems to care.

My wife and I both fear eating indoors - there is no adequate ventilation in many of these old English buildings.

On the plus side, by the end of the month we will both have our second jab - now we can more safely await the next wave of 30 variants out of India.

BoJo is a joke - But he threw money at people over the past year and all the nuts voted Conservative. The next 4 years are going to absolute hell. But at least Princess Nut Nut has No. 10 redecorated to her standards.

Thankfully, my wife has dutch citizenship, worst case scenario is that I need to have a hairball installed in my throat.

to whatever a venue can accommodate with appropriate distancing:

After careful consideration, the legal limit of 30 mourners will be removed as part of Step 3 of the roadmap, to take place from 17 May at the earliest. As the Prime Minister has said, the current data does not suggest any need to alter the dates at which restrictions will next be eased.

Instead, the number of people who can attend a funeral will be determined by how many people the venue, such as the relevant place of worship or funeral home, can safely accommodate with social distancing. This includes both indoor and outdoor venues. Capacities of venues will vary, but many will allow significantly more than 30 people to attend.
