Sheriff Goes Ballistic After Arizona Recounters Demand Access To County Passwords

Source: Huffington Post

The private company conducting the GOP 2020 election recount in Arizona is now demanding access to government internet routers and passwords, which the Maricopa County sheriff blasted as “mind-numbingly reckless and irresponsible” and a threat to law enforcement.

Sheriff Paul Penzone (D) said in a statement that providing router information to a shadowy private company led by a conspiracy-embracing CEO would compromise sensitive and highly classified law enforcement data and equipment.

“The Senate Republican Caucus’ audit of the Maricopa County votes from last November’s election has no stopping point,” Penzone said. “Now, its most recent demands jeopardize the entire mission of the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office.”

In addition, citizens’ private information, including voting histories, addresses, phone numbers and Social Security numbers, could fall into the hands of Cyber Ninjas, the company hired by the GOP-led Senate to conduct the recount.

but, they could remove the routers from the system and hand them over disconnected.
There is no way that they could access the data when they are not connected within the network.
The cost would be Time & Material and down time for the employees, while replacing.
Could be expensive to substitute the current routers.

I'd tell the guys to take a hike. Why would they need this anyway?
They are auditing the election ballots, not the total system.

This tells me they're not finding much and need to dig deeper to justify their Qanonsense theories.

I still believe they will say the election was rigged, with no proof.

69. Routers Don't Modify Data
Tue May 11, 2021, 01:01 AM
May 2021

Routers only direct traffic, not modify it. Routers are built to move packets of information from one computer system to another by reading the MAC and IP addresses. The rest of the information is untouched. Computers remove the addresses and put the data together.

When using sensitive or important information, the transmitting computer encrypts the data inside the packet and the receiving computer decrypts it.

So what good is getting the routers? It's like checking for drug traffic by looking at the tires of a car; yes, they are used but useless otherwise.

11. All five Maricopa County supervisors to be subpoenaed Monday over audit
Mon May 10, 2021, 10:36 AM
May 2021
Kory Langhofer, the attorney for the Senate, said he will be issuing subpoenas Monday, May 10, for all five Maricopa County supervisors, demanding they appear to explain why they won’t surrender certain equipment and information for review as part of the audit of the 2020 General Election returns. Langhofer also said the Senate wants to hear from Scott Jarrett, the county’s director of election day and emergency voting.
...
The Senate also may subpoena Maricopa County Sheriff Paul Penzone. That’s because it is Penzone who is telling the supervisors they shouldn’t surrender the county’s computer routers because it would result in “horrendous consequences” for law enforcement personnel.
...
Senate President Karen Fann said she remains adamant that what the Senate wants is essential to completing the audit. And she told Capitol Media Services that the reticence to produce it makes her desire it even more.

“What are they hiding?” she asked, saying they may not have the confidence in the results they claim. Those results gave Democrat Joe Biden 45,109 more votes in the county than Republican Donald Trump. And that edge was enough to have Biden defeat Trump by 10,457 votes statewide.

................

It’s been almost six months since Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey (R) certified the state’s election results, with Joe Biden beating Trump by 10,457 votes. Biden edged out Trump by more than 2 percentage points ― about 45,000 votes ― in Maricopa County.

Since then, multiple election audits have been conducted in the county, with no fraud or irregularities.

Trump, who persists in lying that he won the election and that it was stolen from him, has been telling guests at his Mar-A-Lago resort in Florida that a vote “upset” in Arizona claimed by the Cyber Ninjas could be his road back to the White House.

Allowing access to routers and passwords gives Cyber Ninjas the ability to harass and intimidate voters. It also is a treasure trove of information that can be used for a variety of purposes.
I think the real reason this "audit" is being conducted is not simply for votes, but to put the Cyber Ninjas into a position where they can control and manipulate elections.
I wonder if the Republicans will put through a bill naming Cyber Ninjas as the company that will oversee all future elections.
It's the old saying, "It's not who votes that counts, it's who counts the votes".
