Novavax reports promising early study of combined COVID-19, flu vaccine
Source: The Hill
Vaccine maker Novavax said Monday that an early study in animals of a combination COVID-19 and flu vaccine produced a positive immune response.
The combination vaccine produced robust antibody responses to both coronavirus and the flu in a study in ferrets, the company said. The shot is still early in the process, and the company said clinical trials in humans are expected to begin by the end of the year.
"Despite low rates during the COVID-19 pandemic, influenza remains a significant risk to global public health and the need for versatile, more effective vaccines is as important as ever, including against the flu, said Gregory Glenn, Novavaxs president of research and development. "We believe that this novel combination vaccine candidate...could be an important future tool in the long-term fight against both of these harmful respiratory viruses."

(30,803 posts)I think the flu shot is a moneymaking racket, and now it's trying to piggyback on the Covid vaccine to boost its sales.
I'll get the Covid booster, if it turns out to be needed, and I'll wear a mask during flu season to protect myself.

(50,916 posts)Did you see the Scientific American article on the problems with the CDC counts of flu deaths? It shows that the flu numbers from the CDC are ridiculous, and if flu deaths were counted like Covid deaths, there would be a few hundred a year.
And PS, I'm in no way anti vax. Like you I am looking forward to any Covid boosters, and am fully vaccinated. Trying to get the shingles shot, but my doc says not for a few years.

(30,803 posts)And I am disgusted that the numbers were so grossly inflated, and that they are cited as though they are the actual, compiled figures.
I'm not anti-vacc either - at all. But I don't blindly embrace everything that is dished out.

(50,916 posts)First of all, the vaccine is cheap, so the profits can't be all that much.
Second, why is every doctor going along with it? Those ER docs in the article can't be the only ones who notice that the cases they see and the numbers they're given by the CDC just don't tally.
