Mitt Romney Warns GOP Removing Cheney From Leadership Role Will 'Cost Us' Voters

Source: Newsweek

Utah Republican Senator Mitt Romney on Monday criticized the congressional members of his party who are seeking to remove Wyoming Congresswoman Liz Cheney as their third highest-ranking House member.

Romney, a longtime target of former President Donald Trump and his most ardent GOP supporters, remarked Monday that "expelling Liz Cheney from leadership won't gain the GOP one additional voter, but it will cost us quite a few." The former 2012 GOP presidential nominee rebuked the recent public remarks of the top two House GOP lawmakers, Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy and Louisiana Rep. Steve Scalise. Both GOP leaders last week endorsed the challenging bid of New York Republican Elise Stefanik to take over Cheney's third-position party role as House Republican Conference chair.

Numerous former Republican Party lawmakers have praised Romney, Cheney and former President George W. Bush for their rejection of Trump's unfounded election claims. But a very vocal sect of Washington GOP representatives have made their support for Trump very clear since last November.

Trump, issuing a Monday statement through his media email list, offered his full support to Stefanik's campaign to unseat Cheney from leadership.

The Reich-wing now hates him as much as her, so they definitely won't listen to what he has to say.

And they'll soon find that Stefanik is just an opportunist who'll say or do anything to get ahead, and the QOP is putting someone into a leadership position that has a much less conservative voting record than the one they're pushing out.

But don't tell them they're cutting their own throats - let them find out on their own!

Make no mistake, Romney or Cheney would screw us all just as hard as Trump.

They just wouldn't be as crass about it.

To hell with all of them.

I hope Trump lives a long time and the GOP spends the next twenty years eating itself.
