Israel, Hamas escalate fighting with no end in sight

Source: AP

By JOSEF FEDERMAN and FARES AKRAM

JERUSALEM (AP) — Israel on Tuesday stepped up its attacks on the Gaza Strip, flattening a high-rise building used by the Hamas militant group and killing at least three militants in their hideouts as Palestinian rockets rained down almost nonstop on parts of Israel.

It was the heaviest fighting between the two bitter enemies since 2014, and it showed no signs of slowing.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed to expand the offensive, while Gaza militants unleashed a fierce late-night barrage of rockets that set off air-raid sirens and explosions throughout the densely populated Tel Aviv metropolitan area.

Three women in Israel were killed by rocket fire, and dozens of people wounded. The death toll in Gaza rose to 32 Palestinians, including 10 children, according to the Health Ministry. Over 200 people were wounded.

Israel has far superior firepower even though both sides are doing war crimes. We need a solution that’s good for both sides, but unfortunately neither side wants to give and the leadership of both is radical.

We're not talking about events that happened almost a many decades ago, but stuff that is actually happening now. Evicting thousands of people from their homes doesn't sound like a private legal matter that was handled in the courts. Although, I admit I have to do some more looking into it to confirm what I read (it's was an AP article, though)

It's a shame that so many innocent people on all fronts are caught up in the violence that is spiraling out of control.

You will find it all started over jews trying to run Palestinians off their homeland

It has been happening for decades so no surprise

The Palestinians started by throwing rocks while the jewish government flattens high rises with people in them

As tight as the security is around gaza I am surprised they managed to get rockets in
Considering they are imprisoned behind a wall and all

Many Jews fled from the Middle East to Europe, where they were later nearly exterminated by the Nazi's.

The Jewish people were banned from entering Jerusalem, and could even get near the Wailing Wall, the holiest site of their religion. They couldn't own property, couldn't hold many jobs, and were rounded up in slums so they didn't contaminate their Palestinian overlords.

Since Israel was founded, they have been invaded twice by their neighbors, with the intent of kicking the Jews out of the middle east. The founding principles of the PLO (now the Palestinian Authority) call for the abolition of Israel as a state.

So saying the entire crisis boils down to Israeli settlement policy is massively disingenuous.

For example, how does
Israel become a state?

Did the people living there invite them to take over their lands and fields?

No the British and their allies decided to create a jewish state out of ancient Palestinian lands, probably because they felt that is what the
Bible called for

Btw in the Bible
God tells the jewish people to kill
Every man, woman or child they find after they are delivered to the
Promised land

The whole thing is a mess but one side is stuck behind a wall with lil hope or opportunity and the other side has iron domes for protection and
Continues to steal land

Look at the map from ‘48 and compare it to now.....
Israel grows and grows

There are numerous incidents throughout history of combatants trapping opposing armies and destroying them, like the Nazi's did in the Soviet Union in WWII and the Soviet Army returning the favor later in the war.

A civil war over territory.

Both sides think they are right.

It will continue while other countries support and finance each side.

The civilians cop the worst of it. Standard civil war scenario.

No, I'm not going to take sides. No point, achieves nothing.
