Liz Cheney strikes defiant tone in floor speech on eve of her expected ousting from House GOP leader

Source: CNN

(CNN)Rep. Liz Cheney vowed Tuesday evening not to remain silent as former President Donald Trump continues to spread lies that the election was stolen from him, striking a defiant tone ahead of an expected vote to remove her from House Republican leadership on Wednesday.

The Wyoming Republican struck a defiant tone on Tuesday evening ahead of the vote, which is all but assured to end in her removal as GOP conference chair after her continued criticisms of Trump. She declared that she would not join with other leaders who ignore Trump's lies, emboldening him and threatening democracy.

"We must speak the truth. Our election was not stolen. And America has not failed," Cheney said.

"Every one of us who has sworn the oath must act to prevent the unraveling of our democracy. This is not about policy. This is not about partisanship. This is about our duty as Americans. Remaining silent and ignoring the lie emboldens the liar," Cheney said. "I will not sit back and watch in silence while others lead our party down a path that abandons the rule of law and joins the former President's crusade to undermine our democracy."

16. but it's not the house GOP

she was speaking to - it was the Repubs who also think that Trump is a crook, liar, and will bring the party down. And she was speaking to the public who also is disgusted with Trump and the GOP's obstructionism and downright craziness. The Repubs who want to save America but don't want to have to agree with Dems. Which, BTW are pretty much the same as Eisenhower Repubs.
I think what she is gambling on is getting support from the backers of Repubs who want to save the party from Trumpism. Who knows, if they dump her, there just might be a counter punch and the "sane" wing of the GOP may rise up behind her.
If not, then for sure, dumping her will divide the GOP, and the nuts will commence to fighting among themselves with purity tests.

Look at who her dad is. You don't think he isn't worried about Trump destroying the party? You don't think he doesn't see in his daughter a chance to mobilize the old guard Trump and his supporters? I have taken careful note of the silence of the old guard since Trump took office. They were not happy when he got nominated and I am sure they have been looking for a way to destroy him and his supporters. I am sure they thought that once Trump was out of office, things would return to "normal" but no. Trump simply stoked the fires of the wing nuts and regained power over the GOP. BUt that didn't happen, much to their chagrin and dismay. And what do you know, along comes this situation which gives them the perfect opportunity to make Liz the modern face of the old guard, so why not throw their weight behind her?

28. I am not sure you are right

This may be the death throes of the old guard of the party. The cool-aid has beef served for a long time and now the people who thought of rhemselvs as the adults in the room have lost all control to the kids hopped up on sugar. It will be a while before the crash and then she may be their to pick up the pieces, but she may not. The problem with Wyoming is with one seat, there is no place else to go. She is in trouble.

She's only touching the surface. There was the planning that led to Jan 6, and there was 2016 if any thinking Republican cares to look.

11. That has been my thought all along, she should switch parties

She knows she is dealing with corrupt cowards, she must know the buffoon has dirt on all these people.

I understand that the criminal mind works in ways that normal people cannot understand, that is something I have always known, but it is so difficult to understand how educated people can play allegiance to a crook buffoon like trump, a low life, someone that people with high school education will know he is not worth a dime as a human being, and these republicans, who are all educated are kissing his butt? What other way can that happen unless the buffoon has dirt on them?

The first example is Graham who after 18 holes of Golf he switched and became a lap dog. Kevin McCarthy called out the buffoon for the insurgency, next day he was called to Mar-A-Lago and came back changed to become another lap dog.

Gym Jordan, Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz, Moscow Mitch, etc...there is a lot of dirt out there, and the buffoon has it all.

17. but she is smart enough

to know that if she is to win, she has to get the support of the people. And since most of the people are on Biden's side, then the old saw ďThe enemy of my enemy is my friend" comes into play. Why not ally yourself to the winning team? She may or may nor be aware of it, but she could lead a GOP revolt by espousing the values of the old pre Reagan GOP. She knows the more supporters she can get, the better chance she has of ousting the Trump nuts.

What is she decides to start voting with the Democrats? What if she decides to monkey wrench the GOP efforts to stop Biden? It would be stupid to reject her, in that case. What if she goes to the public and says what she is saying, that Trumpism has wrecked America and she is on the side of rebuilding America? What if she stands up and says "Party or not, I am for America, and if we don't all work together, we shall surely go under"? Think of what carnage that would make within the GOP.

Face it, though - the GOP right now is stupid. They will oust her, not even thinking of what she could do in retaliation.

Letís not fool ourselves here - Cheney might be looking good in comparison to the spineless cocksuckers in her party, but that woman is her fatherís daughter. She voted with trump 90% of the time and holds ultra-conservative views that have no place in the Democratic Party.

30. Yes, that it what she should do.

She would likely vote against Dems most of the time due to her conservative principles, but she could perhaps be corralled to cast a tie-breaking vote now and then in exchange for something she wants for her Wyoming district. She could keep her independence and perhaps someday rejoin the GOP if sanity ever returns, or any other party she chooses. But for now, going independent would be the best fit with her.

thoroughly enjoy watching Republicans tear themselves apart. Itís a wonderful spectacle to watch all these Republican cuckolds bend each other over and stick it to their own in service to one of the worst Americanís to ever live let alone a former president. I hate to be crude but Liz should strap one on and bend over McCarthy and show him whose the real boss is. McCarthy is toast whether Liz is ousted or not and he is exposing himself and fellow Republicans as the truly gutless traitors we all know they are.

Trump is very vindictive and her outcome was written long ago. She should immediately switch parties to any thing else and then make another speech. This is nothing but a party purge.

My G-d, what is wrong with these people? It is stunning that these professional politicians are kissing Trump's arse. Trump is a crime boss for sure.

GOTV in 2022! Vote them all out of office! Do not let them win!
