After 2-Year Battle, House Panel To Interview Trump Counsel Don McGahn
Source: Huffington Post
The House Judiciary Committee is poised to question former White House counsel Don McGahn behind closed doors on Friday, two years after House Democrats originally sought his testimony as part of investigations into former President Donald Trump.
The long-awaited interview is the result of an agreement reached last month in federal court. House Democrats then investigating whether Trump tried to obstruct the Justice Departments probes into his presidential campaigns ties to Russia originally sued after McGahn defied an April 2019 subpoena on Trumps orders.

As White House counsel, McGahn had an insiders view of many of the episodes Mueller and his team examined for potential obstruction of justice during the Russia investigation. McGahn proved a pivotal and damning witness against Trump, with his name mentioned hundreds of times in the text of the Mueller report and its footnotes.

trump is no longer in office, so he can't block it
In today's age, I think this is reasonable. What bothers me is that the two republicans in the room were Gaetz and Jordan, two criminals themselves.

(25,247 posts)This guy has had 2 years to get coached and practice his answers.
Maybe 2 years from today the Dems will decide to investigate the Jan 6th Capitol Insurrection. (sarcasm)

(22,670 posts)Kicking and screaming about it back then wouldn't change the outcome, but elections will. With the power to enforce subpoenas without corrupt anti-American republican interference, it's taken Democrats this long to get the process through.
Be thankful. And yes, they're going to get this bastard on record with answers. Everyone one of these bastards from the previous administration need to be hauled before congressional panels to answer for their crimes. One after the other!

(107,985 posts)(Bloomberg) -- Former White House Counsel Donald McGahn arrived Friday for closed-door questioning by House Judiciary Committee Democrats about the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election and whether then-President Donald Trump tried to head it off.
Few explosive or timely new revelations are expected. But McGahns appearance does mark the end of a two-year legal standoff over whether an executive branch official can be forced to testify to Congress, even if his appearance does not provide either side with a clear-cut legal victory.
Judiciary Chairman Jerrold Nadler, a New York Democrat, and other panel members from both parties will be limited in what they can ask McGahn under an agreement in principle worked out among McGahns lawyers, President Joe Bidens Justice Department, and House legal counsel.
A transcript of McGahns testimony is to be publicly released within seven days.
