Trump will remain off Facebook for at least two years
Source: Politico
Facebook announced Friday that former President Donald Trump's account will remain suspended for at least two years, setting a timetable for his potential return after its oversight board criticized the company's indefinite ban.
"Given the gravity of the circumstances that led to Mr. Trumps suspension, we believe his actions constituted a severe violation of our rules which merit the highest penalty available under the new enforcement protocols," Facebook's vice president of global affairs Nick Clegg said in a blog post. "We are suspending his accounts for two years, effective from the date of the initial suspension on January 7 this year."
The ban: Facebook first suspended Trump's account in the wake of his posts during the Jan. 6 siege on the Capitol, saying his further presence on the platform risked inciting more violence.

(4,875 posts)But it wont be on Twitter, even if Trump runs for president and wins in 2024, according to the company's chief financial officer Ned Segal.
Asked during an interview on CNBC, Segal stressed that permanent means permanent.
The way our policies work, when youre removed from the platform, youre removed from the platform whether you are a commentator, a CFO or you are a former or public official, he said.

(11,807 posts)...we openly discuss politics and it's actually created a fairly lively working environment. Mostly because we all accept the fact that different people have different beliefs, and that doesn't make them a bad person. Suffice it to say, I'm in the minority with my open support of Biden. Well, someone said today, "So, Facebook is infringing on Trump's 1st amendment rights? And you're OK with that?" So, I politely handed out a life lesson, and explained that the 1st amendment doesn't apply to private companies, so, yea, I was perfectly fine with that. And then I ended with, "I'd say he could start his own social media platform, but we all saw how that ended."
