Biden Rejects Higher GOP Infrastructure Offer from Capito
Source: Bloomberg News
President Joe Biden rejected an increased infrastructure offer from a group of Senate Republicans led by Shelley Moore Capito on Friday, the White House said.
In a phone call with Biden, Capito outlined a plan with about $50 billion more in spending than the group had previously proposed, the White House said in a statement.
The president expressed his gratitude for her effort and goodwill, but also indicated that the current offer did not meet his objectives to grow the economy, tackle the climate crisis, and create new jobs, the White House said.
Capitos office didnt immediately respond to a request for comment.

$50 billion more is barely budging from the GOP's previous offer. Biden is correct to reject the offer.

(22,665 posts)JRB's holding a 62% popularity rating. He should be clobbering Mitch McConnell over the head with free press coverage. Heck, he could use it on a daily basis to mock how all legislation at this point is being held hostage by McConnell and a supermajority threshold. The minority vote in the senate dictates what can and cannot pass. He's the inhibitor, the grim reaper of legislation. Heck, hold the rallies in Kentucky outside of McConnell's office and point the finger at it while calling him out. There's your reason why we cannot get anything passed for the good of the American people. The anti-democratic agenda senator in that office is blocking it all! What's he afraid of and why does he hate the American people so much?

No, Joe should not be doing rallies like the previous guy.

(10,428 posts)classless, hatemonger rallies like MF45. But I can't imagine a Biden rally being like that anyway. They'd probably be fun.
In any case, I do think he does need to do aggressive messaging, and that doesn't mean relying on the corporate media. Some kind of tour would be good.
He needs to take credit for the good he's accomplished. Asshole republiqons are quick to take credit for it, even though they voted against all of it. They should not be allowed to get away with it.

(19,190 posts)they're not really trying, they're paying lip service for the republican base. "See, we tried, but those tax and spend Democrats won't budge"... or something to that effect.
Ridiculous.

(12,806 posts)... anyway, ANYTHING Republicans propose is NOT going to "grow the economy, tackle the climate crisis, and create new jobs" -- as evidenced by the simple and obvious fact that the country wouldn't be in the mess it's in if Republican policies and priorities hadn't put us in our current precarious position by dominating and framing the political landscape and media for the last 30-40 years.
Sacrificing this proposal's value and impact in order to be maybe include a few Republicans on it, such that the proposal would no longer meet the needs of the nation... is no good.

(10,428 posts)As with everything else, they'd vote against it anyway even if Biden did agree to that worthless piece of crap.
They are just stalling, to waste Democrat's time then run next year on "do-nothing" Dems and "sleepy joe didn't get anything done".

(6,159 posts)$50. is missing a zero just to the left of the decimal.
But then, the Republicans have no intention of signing any infrastructure bill, at any level. I'm sure they wouldn't even vote for the one they put forth.
