Biden Rejects Higher GOP Infrastructure Offer from Capito

Source: Bloomberg News

President Joe Biden rejected an increased infrastructure offer from a group of Senate Republicans led by Shelley Moore Capito on Friday, the White House said.

In a phone call with Biden, Capito outlined a plan with about $50 billion more in spending than the group had previously proposed, the White House said in a statement.

“The president expressed his gratitude for her effort and goodwill, but also indicated that the current offer did not meet his objectives to grow the economy, tackle the climate crisis, and create new jobs,” the White House said.

Capito’s office didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.

$50 billion more is barely budging from the GOP's previous offer. Biden is correct to reject the offer.

3. If only he could begin holding rallies like that former has-been orange skidmark did.

JRB's holding a 62% popularity rating. He should be clobbering Mitch McConnell over the head with free press coverage. Heck, he could use it on a daily basis to mock how all legislation at this point is being held hostage by McConnell and a supermajority threshold. The minority vote in the senate dictates what can and cannot pass. He's the inhibitor, the grim reaper of legislation. Heck, hold the rallies in Kentucky outside of McConnell's office and point the finger at it while calling him out. There's your reason why we cannot get anything passed for the good of the American people. The anti-democratic agenda senator in that office is blocking it all! What's he afraid of and why does he hate the American people so much?

12. As Ms Psaki would say, we don't look to our enemies for advice on how...

...to get the job done.

No, Joe should not be doing rallies like the previous guy.

17. I agree that he should not hold

classless, hatemonger rallies like MF45. But I can't imagine a Biden rally being like that anyway. They'd probably be fun.

In any case, I do think he does need to do aggressive messaging, and that doesn't mean relying on the corporate media. Some kind of tour would be good.

He needs to take credit for the good he's accomplished. Asshole republiqons are quick to take credit for it, even though they voted against all of it. They should not be allowed to get away with it.

22. Biden is doing this

so he can say." I offered to work with you to get America going, but, instead, you came up with ridiculousness, and political games, that I rejected. I gave you a chance to be a part of restoring (fixing the mess you guys made under Trump) America, and you blew it."

5. Even if he takes their lowball offer

not a one of them will vote for it anyway and then, they'll spin it to the press as "Biden doesn't care about infrastructure! Look how small the bill is!"

7. $50 billion more.....

they're not really trying, they're paying lip service for the republican base. "See, we tried, but those tax and spend Democrats won't budge"... or something to that effect.

Ridiculous.

8. Lowballing in negotiations will never get you anywhere

That offer is an insult, an effort to erode Biden's confidence more than anything else. It won't work.

9. Perhaps the offer will provide sufficient reason to Manchin that a bipartisan agreement can't be

reached and that the filibuster will have to be abolished. It at least provides some wiggle room for Manchin after that ridiculous offer by Capito on behalf of the GOP.

10. They need to bring Bidens plan to the floor for a vote and then let's see

Manchin tank it all by himself. Let's see how that goes.

15. True, the point is to achieve certain policy objectives and national goals, NOT be bipartisan, and..

... anyway, ANYTHING Republicans propose is NOT going to "grow the economy, tackle the climate crisis, and create new jobs" -- as evidenced by the simple and obvious fact that the country wouldn't be in the mess it's in if Republican policies and priorities hadn't put us in our current precarious position by dominating and framing the political landscape and media for the last 30-40 years.

Sacrificing this proposal's value and impact in order to be maybe include a few Republicans on it, such that the proposal would no longer meet the needs of the nation... is no good.

Manchin and Sinema need to see that the GOP does not bargain in good faith.

18. JHC, they are not negotiating.

As with everything else, they'd vote against it anyway even if Biden did agree to that worthless piece of crap.

They are just stalling, to waste Democrat's time then run next year on "do-nothing" Dems and "sleepy joe didn't get anything done".

21. Basically they were mocking President Biden.

$50. is missing a zero just to the left of the decimal.
But then, the Republicans have no intention of signing any infrastructure bill, at any level. I'm sure they wouldn't even vote for the one they put forth.
