Biden's task force finds 3,900 children separated from families at border under Trump
Source: ABC News
The Biden administration has determined that more than 3,900 children were separated from their families along the Southwest border after the Trump administration launched its controversial "zero-tolerance policy," and -- while several hundred children were returned to their home countries -- fewer than 60 families are now in the process of being reunited, sources familiar with a new report from the Biden team told ABC News.
The report has yet to be released publicly, but its findings mark an official assessment from the Department of Homeland Security and other federal agencies of how many children were actually impacted when the Trump administration decided to take what many considered drastic steps to fight illegal immigration. The report's findings also reflect how difficult and challenging it is to repair the damage that was done under the previous administration, a Homeland Security official said.
The report -- expected to be made public in the coming days -- is an initial progress review from the administration's Family Reunification Task Force, which Biden created in February. It is chaired by Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.
The task force determined that of the more than 3,900 children separated between July 2017 and January 2021, nearly 400 of them have already been repatriated to their country of origin. And for those children still inside the United States without their parents, Biden's task force is offering their families an option to come to the United States. It has approved a total of 62 family members for entry into the country -- an initial group that includes four families already reunited, according to the task force's report.

The crimes traitor allowed to be committed against people already harmed by climate change or violence in their own countries is unspeakable in its cruelty. Only comparable to other cultural massacres.
How many of those 4000 children will never be seen by their families again? Disappeared by traitor and his abettors. Only an alert and free media, tipped off by whistleblowers, let us know this crime against families was being committed.

(5,555 posts)Good question. I would start with DeVos. I remember reading here at DU that many of these kidnapped children were sold for profit through "Christian" adoption agencies recommended by or related to Betsy, Twitler's fake Secretary of Education.

Sure seems that a case could be made against the previous administration. That the court hasnt investigated and that no affected countries-mostly in Latin America-have sought recourse is interesting. If crimes committed by a so-called western democracy are conveniently overlooked calls into question its legitimacy, imho. Sure, genocide in Africa and war crimes by Serb are a shoo-in, but forced family separations and what can only be called kidnappings by the US? Not a chance. Funding. Politics. I understand, but its really a shame that those particular crimes and criminals will not be prosecuted.

(6,958 posts)refused to entry to the country, put her in airport jail for three days, subjected her to anti-Chinese bigotry, threatened to have me arrested because I couldn't prove I was her husband and they were tired of me tying up their phone lines with my "bullshit," then kicking her out of the country, thus separating an American citizen from his foreign spouse?
How about tackling that problem, Joe? They did the same thing to my district Superintendent's foreign wife, and the USCIS, NVC, and CBP are making it more difficult for spouses and family of American citizens to reunite? How about cleaning that mess up too? There are almost 500,000 Americans waiting to reunite with their loved ones?
How about using the bully pulpit and say that no American's spouse will be denied the ability to be with their American family no matter what visa they have?

(67,782 posts)Now when do Biden's and Harris' DEMOCRATIC critics acknowledge what Biden is doing to reunite these families and resolve the immigration problem at the border?
I saw earlier that a high profile Democratic congresswoman bashed VP Harris this afternoon for a few words she said, not considering the context and with no idea of what the PRIVATE talks with the government of Guatemala accomplished. But it gave her an opening to criticize, and she took it.

(406 posts)Years ago I read a book called Enrique's Journey about a young Central American refugee trying to get into the states. It was heart breaking. And these children were PURPOSEFULLY separated from their families and one can only speculate where they ended up. I try not to think violent thoughts, but as much of the rest of the world is dealing with massive waves of refugees, the US, which should lead the way in humanitarianism (because that's what our press always said), can't even adequately keep track of the trickle coming across the sourthern border. I'm going to have to practice my Canadian accent should I ever go abroad.
