Chicago police officer charged in connection with US Capitol breach
Source: Chicago Sun-Times
Federal authorities have arrested a Chicago police officer for his alleged role in the January breach of the U.S. Capitol that interrupted the Electoral College vote count and has led to a sprawling criminal investigation.
Karol J. Chwiesiuk is charged with five misdemeanor counts and appeared remotely before U.S. Judge Gabriel Fuentes in Chicago Friday, where he was given a $15,000 unsecured bond.
Fuentes further ordered Chwiesiuk to surrender his FOID card and not possess a weapon or keep weapons in his home while he awaits trial. He also cannot travel to Washington.
The criminal complaint filed against Chwiesiuk Friday alleges he used a racial slur in a text message and bragged about being inside the Capitol where he was seen wearing a CPD hoodie.
Three days before the riot, Chwiesiuk texted an associate, saying he was busy planning how to f- up commies during a conversation about unsuccessful lawsuits that had been filed to dispute the results of President Joe Bidens election, federal prosecutors said. He then allegedly traveled from Chicago to Washington and joined the mob that stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6.

(20,882 posts)He deserves all thats coming to him. And that loss of that job is only the beginning.
That thinking of theirs is so delusional and those others who decided they wanted to overturn the election on January 6th while taking the oath to protect and defend the law are astounding.

(38,365 posts)As has been said, this low watt bulb was sure no one would turn him on....but someone
somewhere turned him on....
....I would ask him, "Was it worth it?"..to lose your job, your reputation, etc...to "brag about being
inside the Capital....wearing a CPD hoodie"?....
And this is the important point:..."He was sure that he would get away with it."................
Yes, it is that simple...."He was sure that he would get away with it..."
Stuart's Conclusion:.......I guess he didn't know that there are smarter cops around
who go after people who try to destroy our country...Yes, other cops & prosecutors who care for our country far more than he does. He really doesn't have a clue and Is so stupid says Stu.

(4,973 posts)that it is not that they were sure they would get away with it. They were so deluded that they thought they would emerge victorious and be seen as heroes. It is true that at least a tiny part of them knew that they were getting into some trouble, but when one is completely brainwashed, one tends not to be rational about consequences. The one good thing about all this is that they are SO stupid that they used electronic devices that could be traced and tapped, not to mention leaving a nice, easy to read trail of lunacy and hate. One thing that keeps happening in court is that these insurrectionist's attorneys keep trying to say that what these idiots posted was not 'threats', but just wild (but free) speech. That is silly enough, but when they go out and tell the general public this, after we have seen the tweets and texts for ourselves, is just hysterical to me. The fact that these shysters think they can pull some Jedi mind trick on us just makes me laugh so hard.

Chwiesiuk was relieved of his police powers on June 2 as soon as Brown said he was alerted to the charges against Chwiesiuk and hung up the phone with the feds.
Chwiesiuk was hired by the CPD in December 2018 and lives on the Northwest Side with his parents, according to his attorney, Tim Grace, a lawyer for the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 7 that represents rank-and-file CPD officers. He previously worked as a deputy with the Cook County sheriffs office.

I like that he was canned before he was busted. I don't like that he's out on bail.
The part about living with his parents on the Northwest Side is so classically Chicago it's a realistic stereotype.
Cops have to live in the city limits. Many young ones live at home. The Northwest Side is as close to suburbia as you can find within the limits.
As a Cook County sheriff, he started out at the Cook County Jail. They all do. A former band mate of mine is a guard supervisor there.
