Same-sex couple complete adoption that Nebraska judge tried to block

Source: Omaha World Herald

By Martha Stoddard

LINCOLN — Kelly Hoagland and Maria Salas Valdez expected to walk out of a Dixon County courtroom a year ago as the legal parents of the child they had been raising since birth.

Instead, they were stunned to hear the judge at the hearing declare that he was tossing out their adoption petition.

Describing himself as “old-fashioned,” Dixon County Judge Douglas Luebe told them that the “plain ordinary language” of state adoption law does not permit a “wife and wife” to adopt. Any other conclusion, he continued, would turn the court into an “imagination station.”

“I was shocked,” Hoagland said. “I had to turn around and ask the lawyer, did he just say what I thought he said? I couldn’t understand why he did what he did.”

To oppose adoption by gays, the super Christians say that children deserve a mother and a father..

Give them the opportunity to practice what they preach.

If they would adopt the children who need families, there would be no children left for the gays to adopt.

If they truly believed that then why are they OK with divorce where there are kids? Yes, I know that divorce can sometimes be the best answer where the other answers are even worse for the kids, but to argue that a child can't be adopted by a same-sex couple because kids deserve a mother and father while at the same time being OK with the mother or father leaving the marriage is hypocritical, at best/(worst?). Oh, yeah. I forgot. "Super Christians" are by definition hypocrites.

Unless it's the man who is seeking it. And then only if he says she is a cheating slut. Religions run by men don't allow divorce except in very rare cases. But it has nothing to do with kids or family, it has to do with control over women and craven grift.

It's not even exotic religions or extremist cults. Catholicism, Judaism, Muslim - all control divorce (or attempt to).

That big egg plant is really something, good and bad. The injuries there are numerous, and the way the egg plant worked their way around it was giving monthly prizes to teams who reported no injuries. The prizes were nice winter jackets, big coolers, nice fishing rods; which encouraged people to talk others out of reporting their injuries. Another trick was to use undocumented workers as much as possible.

The treatment of hens was atrocious, stacked crates of hens who never saw the sun in their lives.

I'm glad there's at least a federal inspector living in town.

I worked on a small family farm in upstate new york. We were surrounded by factory farms for poultry, pork, and dairy cows. It was shocking how many animals were crammed into small spaces. They were all on antibiotics all the time (and it would routinely be detected in milk).

If the power went out in a hen house, 50,000 birds would be dead in hours because once the fans stopped running, the heat went way up.

The smells were gagging putrid. A mix of pain and death. Night and day from the small family operations, which treated their animals well and kept conditions tolerable. Those small operations are all gone now. There is no financial way they can exist save as hobbies for the rich.
