Trump revenge tour kicks off with Saturday rally in Ohio
Source: Reuters
Former U.S. President Donald Trump will hold a rally on Saturday in Ohio, his first since his supporters' deadly attack on the Capitol, as he aims to bolster allies, berate his enemies and cement his influence over the Republican Party.
While Trump has made speeches at Republican events since his election defeat by Democratic President Joe Biden, the rally in a state he carried in the 2020 election marks a return to the kind of freewheeling mass gatherings that have been critical to retaining the support of his base.
It also marks the start of his public events lashing out at elected Republicans who he views as having crossed him. He will campaign for former White House aide Max Miller, who has launched a primary challenge against Representative Anthony Gonzalez, one of the 10 House Republicans who voted to impeach Trump on a charge of inciting the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol that left five dead including a Capitol Police officer.
*snip*
The Ohio event, at a fairground in Wellington, about 40 miles (64 km) southwest of Cleveland, will be the first of three public appearances, followed by a trip to the U.S.-Mexico border with Texas Governor Greg Abbott on June 30 and a rally in Sarasota, Florida, on July 3.

Hmmm, unvaccinated, unmasked crowds shouting and cheering for the deposed fascist = superspreader Delta+ event.

(19,382 posts)Remember when American idol started? It was must see tv and social media was the main topic of conversation. I mean there were Idol parties. It was a huge thing. 20 years later it barely registers. I think these will be the same. No way does he fill stadiums anymore. Hes basically a has been at least among his former supporters.

(2,094 posts)hope you're right regarding the attendance at this Traitor Fest, early indications are that it'll be in the thousands. One Cleveland station, channel 3 WKYC (NBC affiliate), has been reporting on this event daily (on many occasions as the lead story) and interviewing the early arrivers who have been camping out at the site for days (many of whom are from out-of-state). Outside of the major urban areas in Ohio, the state is overflowing with rabid, fanatical MAGATT heads. With all due respect to progressive Floridians, there's a reason that Ohio has been described as the "Florida of the Midwest."

Besides, I just registered to get a ticket. Maybe others have done that too. Remember when all the K Pop buys registered for tickets and then no one showed up? It was great!

(60,968 posts)It sounds like this does not have tickets and it will be his first event run by him. I also think that many will come from large distances as they did for his covid spreaders in 2020. I suspect that many in his cult might actually "follow" the tour - as Grateful Dead fans did for far better shows.
Deminpenn
(17,506 posts)Jmho, but it seems many of the same folks have been following him around since 2015.
Now that Trump has to pay for the events himself, I'm sure they won't be on the same scale as when he got to grift off Uncle Sam and get away with not paying the bills incurred by the hosts.

(53,214 posts)I want the monster to live a very long and miserable life. May he live to see his "empire" crumble into debt and dust, his friends and family desert him, and his supporters abandon him. I picture him old and sickly in a faded, crumpled blue suit staring pathetically at his phone, crestfallen because no one will take his calls, his children never visit, his grandkids changed their last name, and no one will bring him a Diet Coke. Still even at his lowest point, he will be plotting revenge against all his perceived enemies living and dead.
Very therapeutic to fantasize now and then!
Martin Eden
(15,628 posts)Is not so much that the orange abomination suffers personal ruin and humiliation (though hell yes on that) but for an overwhelming majority of the American people to see this monster for the abomination that he is.
That his elevation to the highest office in our land will be widely viewed as a shameful page in American history -- a cautionary tale and a critical lesson illustrating how necessary it is to actively protect and improve our democratic (small d) institutions, lest they succumb to the demagoguery of "populist" tyrants.
PatSeg
(53,214 posts)And ideally his supporters, though probably not reformed, at least may realize that he played them all for fools. They may never become good citizens and neighbors, but hopefully most of them will become aware that their fearless leader was just a classic con man.
It is so sad that people all over the world have been able to see what a monster and fraud he was from the very beginning, but so many here still don't see it. It's not like it was a secret. Trump is probably the most obvious man on the planet.

Cleveland/Akron used to be fairly liberal, but that was when we didn't elect third generation career criminal reality TV celebrities who played successful businessmen on TV that they never were in real life because their Daddy was still bailing them out of their personal and business failures well into middle age, to be President. Ohio used to be purple, we are solid rustbelt now. Outside the inner belt of the major cities it is still fairly rural, happy hunting ground of FOX and hate radio. (64,887 posts)Wellington is a village in Lorain County, Ohio, United States. The population was 4,802 at the 2010 census.
EDIT
As of the census[2] of 2010, there were 4,802 people, 1,956 households, and 1,266 families living in the village. The population density was 1,333.9 inhabitants per square mile (515.0/km2). There were 2,148 housing units at an average density of 596.7 per square mile (230.4/km2).
The racial makeup of the village was 95.8% White, 1.2% African American, 0.3% Native American, 0.4% Asian, 0.5% from other races, and 1.8% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino people of any race were 2.0% of the population.

(38,726 posts)a minority of people in the U.S.A. still support him....25, 23, 20% or even 15%,... but they support him and believe in him...
....Why?. There are many selfish and self - centered people(just like Trump) & they still want
to believe in him & his lies...
But the number will gradually go down, and down, as people argue with those supporters...............(family, friends, associates & others) and an indictment comes through. If a conviction is made, then the evidence will be clear to all, and his support will die out...(like Nixon's support) but time is the reason why it will die out.
That is indeed sad, but truly dedicated followers really don't want to let go of their leader. No matter
what the evidence is..

That's why rallies are so important to him -- it gives the APPEARANCE of massive, rabid, unquestioning devotion.
Trump supporters find it light years beyond the realm of possibility that he lost the popular vote twice, and by a margin TWICE as large the second time, because the alternative is having to face up to having bet "all in" on him and lost.
While there's no reason to doubt that his 74 million 2020 votes is among the highest of totals for an incumbent, what Team Trump has been (deliberately?) overlooking is that a) eleven million of those votes came from people who DIDN'T vote in 2016; and that b) FIFTEEN million of BIDEN'S votes came from people who didn't vote in 2016!
