SURFSIDE, Fla. (AP) The body of a Miami firefighters 7-year-old daughter was recovered from the site of a South Florida condo collapse by the search and rescue team he had been assisting, officials said Friday.
The child was one of two victims found in the rubble of Champlain Towers South late Thursday, one week after the building partially collapsed. On Friday, Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava announced the death toll now stands at 20, with 128 people still considered missing in the wreckage.
Miami Mayor Francis Suarez confirmed that the child, whose name hasnt been released, was the daughter of a firefighter. He said the family had asked for privacy.
She was a member of our fire family, Suarez said, adding that the entire fire department is grieving.

(14,628 posts)Not everyone works normal hours, or even a specific geography. Being away from home on any given night needs no special explanation.
You might be right, but it's a reach. Just saying.

(9,998 posts)And I have not heard anything about the mother. If he was married, and living there with his wife and daughter, once again I think that would be mentioned.
I honestly don't think it's a reach or a bad assumption. And obviously the 7 year old was not alone, meaning it's most likely the mother perished as well.

(14,628 posts)Maybe he had custody, or he was a widower, and it was a sitter who was watching her?
You can come up with a dozen scenarios on both sides.
The tragedy is the 7 y.o. girl and anyone else in the apt/building. Family unit status is a silly game to play.

(8,677 posts)Trump will not breathe a single word of compassion for anyone lost in the condo at his Sarasota KKKlan rally tonight? It will be non stop deep state coming after him with witch hunt and fake accusations. He may blame the collapse on Antifa Terrorist, but thats all he will say about it. DeSantas backed out of appearance, and praised President Bidens compassion and help. Wait till Donnie gets rolling with his hate ranting, he will say something derogatory about his boy. Popcorn!!!

(9,998 posts)He won't say much, but I bet he says something brief. He's not going to completely ignore it, but he'll spend a tiny bit of time, so Faux News can play the clip, and all the Cult Members will think he's a swell guy.
DeSatan is going to be the Nominee in '24, and Drumpf is going to support him. That's my prediction. He's not going to say anything negative about DS, I'd bet anything on that.

(8,677 posts)After 3 years of hell raining down on his business, and his family, he will be in no place to run. But he can be a king maker still with the cult. And as long as Fox controls the cult, he will be relevant.
If we are at civil war, guess Biden may be able to pull a trump and declare national emergency and the vote cant happen. The goose and gander thingy.

I will say I don't fully understand why body recovery is so slow.

(11,949 posts)And moving the debris is risky, dangerous work. It may be months before they find the last victim.
A person on the 3rd floor would have 9 layers of thick concrete burying them.

(9,998 posts)Nobody wants to be the 1st to say it, and tell the families that they are all fatalities. But there really hasn't even been a tiny chance of finding someone alive outside of perhaps the 1st day.

(11,949 posts)Id love to be wrong. But unless on the top floor everything in the other apartments was smashed flat.
I cant imagine how hard it would be to manage messaging in a situation like this. Perhaps the thought is to let the families come to the conclusion that there are no survivors before calling it just a recovery mission? Because really, the families are all that really matters and I can see decisions being made based on their emotional state. Everyone else are just spectators.
But Im just guessing.
Horrible.

(161 posts)I wonder if the Israeli SnR folk (no doubt amongst the best in the world due extensive experience), are looking at the rest of Florida and asking themselves if "This is what we could be!", or "This is what we might become?"
Asking for a friend...
