James Altman, Priest Who Said Catholics Can't Be Democrats, Removed From Posting By Bishop

Source: Newsweek

Rev. James Altman, the Wisconsin priest who declared Catholics cannot be Democrats in a YouTube video, was removed from his posting in a decree by a bishop. Bishop William Patrick Callahan removed Altman from serving as a pastor for St. James the Less parish in the city of La Crosse, the city's diocese said in a statement Friday.

The decree of Altman's removal will remain in effect unless it is determined otherwise. Altman's controversial YouTube video was posted before the 2020 presidential election where he said Democrat supporters will burn in hell.

'(The bishop) and his diocesan representatives have spent over a year, prayerfully and fraternally, working toward a resolution related to ongoing public and ecclesial concerns of the ministry of Fr. James Altman," the Diocese of La Crosse's statement said.

"Unfortunately for the corrupt hierarchy, I will not be silenced by any arbitrary Decree, nor will I be cowed by any action against my priestly faculties," Altman told conservative news publication LifeSiteNews.com...

I would think it would be more probable that Republicans can't be Catholics.

What is with this guy? Doesn't Altman ever read the new testament?

I haven't been to church in many a year, but when I did go to Mass, as well as earlier when I was in Catholic school, it was taught this way:

Hell exists, but it is actually hard to get into, because you have to be someone who freely and totally rejects the limitless love of God -- and simultaneously totally understands the gravity of that decision, yet nonetheless rejects God's love.

is needed in the mountains of Tibet, where he may actually learn something about unconditional love and spirituality.

Politics and Religion are to be separated - this is yet another thing that is being totally accepted by the public because there are no consequences for breaking this law. Perhaps if the churches tax status were removed they would change their habits.

Without consequences, evil and illegal actions will continue until we will have no laws, the constitution will be worthless, and our entire society will fall to pieces.

The First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution says that everyone in the United States has the right to practice his or her own religion, or no religion at all. ... The Establishment Clause of the First Amendment prohibits government from encouraging or promoting ("establishing&quot religion in any way.

RELIGION AND POLITICS SHOULD NOT MIX - PERIOD. And nobody has the right to say that someone cannot become the religion that they align with spiritually, I don't care what political party you are with. WTF is wrong with this guy? Why do they keep people like him and priests who harm children as part of the Catholic church? This is why conventional religion is fading away.

Find your Creator in the home of your soul. You don't need a building or a human to have a relationship with your higher power. It is ALL within you, always.

I had to study this encyclical in my Senior year at my Catholic High School.
