(1,510 posts)Manassas Battlefield National Park is federal property, administered by the National Park Service. I am not aware of any movement to remove Confederate statues or monuments from battlefields.
I was born and reared in south Mississippi, thoroughly drenched in the "Lost Cause" myth -- then I learned to read and left the South. I am a huge proponent of removing all the damn Confederate statues from courthouse lawns, town centers and the like that are all over the South. The bulk of those statues were erected in 1900-1920 and in the 1960's, all in reaction to gains by African-Americans and all in an attempt to show them who was in charge.
On the other hand, I think statues and monuments are appropriate in the battlefields as they are part of history there.
Just my $0.02 worth.
