Roy Moore loses lawsuit against Sacha Baron Cohen

Source: The Hill

A federal judge in New York on Tuesday handed a defeat to former Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore in his lawsuit against actor and comedian Sacha Baron Cohen, of "Borat" fame.

In a 26-page ruling, U.S. District Judge John Cronan said Moore had waived his right to sue over a satirical segment that appeared on a 2018 episode of Cohen’s comedy series “Who is America?”

Moore and wife Kayla brought the suit for defamation and emotional distress after the former judge was duped into sitting for an interview with the comedian. During the segment, Cohen posed as an Israeli counter-terrorism expert and suggested Moore was a pedophile by using what he claimed was a detection device invented by the Israeli Army.

Moore lost a 2017 special election for Alabama’s open Senate seat after allegations emerged that he had pursued romantic relationships with teenagers while he was in his 30s, with some of the women accusing Moore of sexual misconduct, including assault. He has denied the claims.

And that shit he signed said he can't sue the interviewer.

I can't explain it, because there are some good people in Alabama, but the majority love them some resistance to "pointy headed liberal elite types".

I say that as a product of the Mobile County Public School System.

The (R) supersedes anything, it is a "get out of jail free" card in Alabama.

Moore did not complete either of his terms as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Alabama. He was removed from office for judicial misconduct by the Alabama Court of the Judiciary TWICE. Two separate elected terms to the state supreme court, 2001-2003 and 2013-2017, and removal from office during BOTH terms for JUDICIAL MISCONDUCT.

Moore is no dummy. He graduated from the US Military Academy (West Point). He served in Vietnam. And he graduated from the University of Alabama School of Law.

He was not duped. He knows the law. He is a conniving, scheming, pedophile. Everything he does is for the benefit of Roy Stewart Moore. He is just like Trump. Never forget that when he pops back up, as he will.

I think it's perfectly fair to say Baron Cohen duped him; but that wasn't something Moore could sue about. The agreement to be filmed was presumably written by lawyers to make sure it didn't depend on the true identity of the interviewer.

it was great. He also had an episode at a protest where he convinced a guy when he touched the location of a protester on a tablet, he would blow them up, at first the guy was like no, I won't do that...it was horrifying how fast Sacha Baron Cohen was able to change his mind.

Pretty sad that Matt Gaetz was one of the more sane-acting Republicans in that video! Not that even he immediately dismissed such insanity!

Several GOP members want to cause death and destruction within this country, no doubt about it.

....but I don't have much use for Sacha Baron Cohen.

Innocent people not targeted by his antics lost their jobs because of Borat. This includes at least one local TV producer who signed him to a morning program on the assumption that he was a serious guest.

To my knowledge, Cohen has never even apologized for that.
