Lubbock County Sheriff's SWAT officer killed, 4 others injured in standoff in Levelland

A Lubbock County Sheriff's SWAT officer was killed and four other officers were wounded during a standoff with a barricaded person that lasted into Thursday evening, officials confirmed.

The standoff that began shortly after 1 p.m. Thursday by 9 p.m. remained a "violent, volatile situation," with an armed man still barricaded inside a house surrounded by dozens of local, state and federal law enforcement officials, Levelland Police Chief Albert Garcia said during news conference.

He was joined by Lubbock County Sheriff Kelly Rowe, who expressed his grief at the loss of his SWAT team's commander, Sgt. Josh Bartlett, while acknowledging officials were still dealing with a live scene.

…going door-to-door to force Congress to do something about the proliferation of guns I’ll never understand.

Until they do, “thoughts and prayers” dudes!

I find the thought of police wandering around Congress forcing Representatives to do anything rather disturbing.

And I suspect they know somewhere deep down that if we reduced the number of guns in the country enough to make it so gun violence was no longer a useful threat come election time, the perception that we need to give police military surplus to play with and massive budgets would be a much much harder sell.

The man who shot him (just described as 22 years old, nothing more) was taken into custody.

More military weapons for cops. More military weapons for the citizens. More of these situations lead to more military weapons for citizens, more for citizens and all of a sudden the gun dealers are all getting rich and richer.

Follow the god damn fricken money.

Now it makes sense.

They are small potatoes in all reality. Most are just people trying to get by, a portion are corrupt and unlikable, some are truly a menace to their local society.. but minor really, except for the handful of people directly harmed by them..

Follow the money.

The gun industry is approx 28b

The law enforcement industry is 100b.

Add in the incarceration industry for another 80b.

And then defense industry because the military needs new fancy gear to replace what it gives to police departments, for at least another 20B.

Follow the money.

…was not killed. An 11-hour stand-off but there was enough desire to save a life, not to storm the house… is, to me, a good sign of great law enforcement.

Same situation in Pittsburgh - angry white man shoots up a synagogue and kills a few cops and is allowed to surrender.

It's shown over and over and over again.
