New Florida COVID-19 cases nearly double over last week; positivity rate jumps

TAMPA, Fla. - New Florida coronavirus cases have nearly doubled in the last week, while the state's positivity rate has also soared, topping 11 percent over the last seven days.

Florida is now issuing coronavirus data only once a week. The Department of Health stopped reporting daily coronavirus statistics in early June at the direction of Gov. Ron DeSantis.

"COVID-19 cases have significantly decreased over the past year as we have a less than 5% positivity rate, and our state is returning to normal, with vaccines widely available throughout Florida," press secretary Christina Pushaw told The News Service of Florida at the time.

The weekly reports are issued each Friday. According to the summary released on June 16, Florida tallied 45,603 new coronavirus cases for the week of July 9-15. That's nearly double the previous week's total of 23,562 and roughly triple the week before that, which was 15,998.

It is a pretty ruthless political strategy of Ron DeSantis, one of the favorites for the Republican 2024 Presidential nomination to fight efforts to control the pandemic so that more people in his State die, then Republicans will blame the continuing death toll on Biden. Florida alone accounts for 20 percent of new U.S. COVID cases.

Yet, with the hammerlock the right wing media has on its base, Republicans will be convinced that the the high death toll in vaccine hesitant areas is due to some conspiracy to kill Republicans, rather than seeing themselves as victims of a reckless Republican strategy to sacrifice their own supporters for the political benefit of Republican leaders.

especially since they are the ones that keep randomly "changing the environment" so they can "own the libs", and then it ends up backfiring on them, and they get hit by their own assault.

were killing Americans by dissuading them from getting vaccinations. Democrats need to seize this higher ground, and relentlessly hammer it home.

It’s now anyone’s choice. The fault lies with those who question the vaccine or those who choose for whatever reason not to get it.

Were Orange Poop Man still in charge, National Guard would still be "confiscating" respirators and Junior would be bellowing "Worship my Daddy, he's gonna have bleachjections and hydrocloroxiwhatever for everybody real soon! Warps peed!" between lines of booger sugar.

While my mom was talking to one of the nurses, she said that the floor they isolate the COVID patients on didn't have a bed left, and that the Delta variant was kicking their butts. We're in south FL.

I'm a Pfizer vaccine person, and hoping for that booster.
