House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy has homed in on five Republicans whom hes looking to tap for the Democrat-led select committee investigating the Jan. 6 Capitol attack.
While the California Republican took his time deciding between naming more experienced members to the probe, filling his seats with firebrands, and refusing to tap any members at all, McCarthy ultimately chose to go with the former route. His anticipated selections have the committee leadership and oversight chops to counter Democrats, who are expected to use the select panel to hammer Donald Trump and the GOP for fueling the deadly assault on the Capitol.
McCarthys picks, all talked about as likely, are led by Rep. Jim Banks (R-Ind.), chair of the Republican Study Committee, as the ranking member of the panel. Banks, who oversees the largest House GOP caucus, is viewed within the party as a skilled messenger.
The other members include Illinois Rep. Rodney Davis, a moderate who serves as the top Republican on the House Administration Committee; Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan, the top Republican on the House Judiciary Committee; Rep. Kelly Armstrong (R-N.D.), a lawyer by trade who served on the House Judiciary Committee during the first Trump impeachment; and freshman Rep. Troy Nehls (R-Texas), a former sheriff who supported Capitol Police in turning back rioters who tried to break into the House floor during the siege.

Point is, it's time to hold the investigation and get to the crux of what trump and his supporters did to set the record straight.

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) will recommend five Republicans to serve on the select committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol by a pro-Trump mob, according to two House GOP aides. The lawmakers are Reps. Jim Jordan (Ohio), Jim Banks (Ind.), Rodney Davis (Ill.), Kelly Armstrong (N.D.) and Troy Nehls (Texas), according to the aides, who were not authorized to publicly discuss the matter.
The lawmakers were expected to meet with McCarthy in his office at the Capitol Monday evening. McCarthys choices will need to be approved by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) before they can sit on the 13-member panel, according to the legislation passed by the House to establish the committee.
Pelosi moved to form the committee after Senate Republicans blocked an effort to create an independent, bipartisan commission. Earlier this month, she tapped Rep. Bennie G. Thompson (D-Miss.) to chair the panel and announced her other appointments, including one Republican, Rep. Liz Cheney (Wyo.).
McCarthy opposed the creation of the committee and had repeatedly declined to say whether he plans to appoint members; at a news conference last month, he dodged questions on the subject.

(4,986 posts)had been resolved a few weeks ago, that they declined to appoint anyone, and that Pelosi, therefore, appointed the entire committee.
Why are they now appointing members?

(23,099 posts)She also hasn't tipped her hand on if she's accepting them or not. She also hasn't stated the rules of the investigation and maybe intends those to hamstring them? The Editorial Board of the Washington Post stated the same concern I did this morning. I just read it so didn't know that when originally posting.
I'm done with this now, have a good day.
