“While masks are not currently mandatory in Kansas City, we continue to encourage Kansas Citians to wear masks in large indoor settings, or if you are in close proximity to an unvaccinated person,” Lucas said. “Kansas City, please — please — take the vaccine if you have not yet.”

A spokesperson for the Clay County Public Health Center said they do not have any updates to COVID-19 guidance. Platte County, according to a spokesperson for the county's health department, similarly said there are no plans to reinstate a mask mandate. The Unified Government of Wyandotte County also does not plan to issue a mandate.

Cass County has never initiated such a mandate.

Dr. Sanmi Areola said, in a statement provided to KSHB 41 News by a spokesperson, that the Johnson County Department of Health and Environment "is not currently considering reinstating the mask mandate."

he's a Dem, but it's officially a non partisan office, and they were the last to get rid of them in May after Johnson County let theirs expire in Late April, hospital heads are begging for them to be put back in place

As it happens, my sons went to school with him. He''s truly a great guy. I have no idea if he has ambitions for another office, but so long as he's mayor of Kansas City, he's doing a wonderful job.

is mandating masks again and the MO state attorney general is planning to sue to keep them from mandating masks. I think this is why Mayor Lucas is just encouraging them at this point.

the hospitals in KC are beggging for new mandates but the area health departments seem to be just issuing advisories at this point,

the retiring HD director thinks this is really needed for the whole state to be effective

it probably depends on how much this new law pushed by the party of local control limits local health departments, might be better to focus on vaccinations than a court fight
